📢 PUBLIC STATEMENT

We are aware of rumours circulating that New Dawn has "jettisoned" 28 dogs at a former foster property.

THIS IS COMPLETELY UNTRUE.

✅ NO New Dawn foster dogs are currently at that property.
✅ The last New Dawn foster dog left in August 2025.
✅ A few dogs legally transferred to the individual many years ago remain there — these are not our rescue dogs.
✅ NO New Dawn rescue dogs have been bred from.
✅ We offered assistance immediately upon learning of the situation on 3/10/2026 and have liaised directly with the agencies/authorities involved.

We will not be commenting further or providing any more information publicly as doing so may affect the course of action agencies and authorities currently involved may choose to take

Thank you.

🏡 LEON — STILL LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME 🏡

Our lovely boy Leon is now 10 months old — and still waiting for that special family to choose him 💔

If ever a dog has been unlucky, it’s Leon. So many unsuitable applications, no-shows for arranged meets… and still no home.

✨ About Leon:

- House trained, crate trained, travels beautifully in the car (happy on the back seat in his harness)

- Grown up with children — great with them

- Social with other dogs with careful introductions — he just gets overwhelmed by overly bouncy, over-playful dogs who crowd him

- Vaccinated & microchipped ✅

- Knows his basics — but he’s still very much a work in progress, so you’ll need to be committed to continuing his training, socialisation and education

- He IS a puppy — so lively, bouncy, can be nippy, vocal and occasionally destructive — all completely normal puppy behaviour!

- Best of all: He has that elusive off-switch — not your typical high-drive “always on” Mali. He can settle, relax and be your companion. Has fantastic potential as a loving family dog or working partner in the right hands.

📍 Location: Stratford upon Avon
📋 Usual adoption process & £400 fee apply

Leon deserves a home where he’s seen, valued and loved — not passed over. If you’re ready to commit to a wonderful young dog and give him the forever home he’s been waiting for, please get in touch 💛

Let’s make it happen for Leon! 🐾

Some of our long term supporters will remember our puppy Zim now Zak

Zak came to us in 2020
leaving shortly afterwards to go to a hmp where he licensed and did some pretty incredible things including winning the hmp National Trials in 2024 and 2025

Zak handler and us were hoping for a hat trick this year but unfortunately it was not to be

However overall hmp obedience champion is pretty impressive too

Well done to Zak his handler and everyone who took part in the trials

🐾 KNOW YOUR RIGHTS WHEN SURRENDERING YOUR DOG TO NEW DAWN 🐾

When you make the difficult decision to surrender your dog to us, here’s what you need to know:

✅ Information we ask for
You’ll complete a relinquishment form sharing as much detail as possible:

- How long you’ve owned your dog

- Their history, training level, and habits — house trained, crate trained, car/kennel trained

- Vaccinations, microchipping, neutering status

- Any behaviours: reactivity, noise, destructiveness, socialisation with children, other dogs, cats, bite history — everything helps us place them safely

✅ Fees & transport

- A £100 relinquishment fee applies to help cover initial care costs

- You are responsible for transporting your dog to our agreed foster or kennel space

✅ Once signed over — what this means
The dog legally becomes the responsibility of New Dawn Malinois Rescue. You will no longer have rights over them. This means:

- We are not obligated to share ongoing updates, adopter details, or future outcome information — including if the dog is transferred to another rescue or, in truly exceptional circumstances, is PTS

- We do not share adopters’ personal details — ever — for their privacy and safety

- Sometimes we may keep in touch and share photos for a while, but this is a kindness, not a requirement

✅ Questions & change of heart

- Please ask all your questions before signing over your dog — once the process is complete, we cannot revisit or answer new questions about their future

- If you change your mind afterwards, returning the dog to you is unlikely. We may consider it only in exceptional circumstances and only if the dog has not yet been formally adopted

- There are some questions we are unable to answer — we will be clear about this from the start

💛 We know this is an incredibly hard, emotional decision. We treat every dog — and every owner — with kindness and respect. But we must be clear: once your dog is in our care, our priority is their wellbeing and finding them the best possible forever home. We do not have the capacity or legal duty to provide ongoing updates once they are no longer yours.

Thank you for trusting us to care for your dog 💛

🐾 WHY WE ASK FOR A £100 RELINQUISH FEE 🐾

We believe owners wishing to surrender their dog should take responsibility for their pet right up until the moment they come into our care. This is why we ask for a £100 relinquish fee — to help cover the initial costs of bringing a dog into New Dawn.

The £100 relinquish fee is payable before the dog is recieved into our care no owner relinquishing their dog to New Dawn has been asked or is expected to pay an extra fee to any of our fosters

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Responsibility & preparation
We ask that your dog is vaccinated and microchipped before coming to us. Microchipping is a legal requirement. Sadly, we are almost never able to accept unvaccinated dogs — most of our foster carers have their own pets, and we simply cannot risk the spread of disease.

✅ Transport
We ask owners to bring their dog to their new foster home. This gives you the chance to see exactly where your dog will be staying, ask any questions you may have, and gives our foster carer the opportunity to find out everything they need to know about your dog directly from you.

✅ Where the fee goes
The £100 contributes towards the costs of care from day one. Our aim is to find every dog a loving forever home within 3 months or sooner — but sometimes it takes longer, and every week in care means rising costs for food, vet care, equipment, training, and more.

✅ Once signed over
Please note: once your dog is officially signed into our care, we are under no legal obligation to share further details about the rescue, our foster carers, or the dog’s new adoptive home.

✅ This is fair — and it’s responsible
At £100, our relinquish fee is very reasonable. For perspective, the average cost to have a dog put to sleep is £200–£500 — this fee helps us give your dog every chance at a new life instead.

✅ Exceptions
We do waive or adjust this fee in genuine hardship cases, and when working alongside local authorities, social services, dog wardens, council pounds, or the police — in these situations we may also cover transport and accept dogs even if not fully vaccinated.

The honest reality
Rehoming fees are something more and more rescues are having to introduce right now. Funds are incredibly tight across the sector, and we must be able to afford to care for every dog we take in. This fee helps us help your dog — and keep doing the right thing.

🐾 OUR £400 ADOPTION FEE — EXPLAINED 🐾

Recently we’ve received criticism about our adoption fee, with some suggesting £400 is far higher than most UK dog rescues. We wanted to be transparent and open about exactly where this money goes.

The simple truth: our fee is pretty standard across the sector — a little more than some, less than others. It has remained unchanged and mostly unchallenged over our nine years of operation, and we believe it is entirely fair.

How our fees work

- We do not charge higher fees for puppies.

- We do reduce fees for dogs who have been with us a long time, are older, or are harder to rehome.

- Sometimes we gift dogs entirely — for example when a previous adopter has lost their dog, or where a dog has health conditions, or needs a very specific home such as an experienced working environment.

Where your £400 goes

Every penny goes straight back into caring for the dogs in our care. It covers:
✅ Vaccinations & microchipping
✅Flea and worming treatment
✅ Neutering (before they leave us, when old enough)
✅ Vet bills — both routine and unexpected
✅ Food (if foster carers wish us to cover it)
✅ Equipment: crates, beds, leads, collars, toys treats
✅ Transport costs to move foster dogs safely
✅ Rescue insurance
✅ Professional training support for the dogs in our care
✅ Website fees
✅Rescue phone contract
✅ Secure dog field hire
✅ Emergency boarding costs (we try to avoid this, but it’s there when needed)

The difference this makes

Unlike so many rescues right now, New Dawn carries no debt. We will only take a dog in if we can afford to care for them — whether through funds raised in advance or existing reserves. That stability means we can give every dog the care they deserve, without being stretched beyond what’s responsible.

Our adoption fee is not profit — it’s how we keep going, keep safe, and keep doing the right thing by every dog who comes through our doors.

Thank you for supporting us 💛
