Yesterday, a group of our Young Carers, from Year 8 through to Year 13, enjoyed an action-packed day of adventure Brathay Trust near Ambleside.

The day began with a kayaking adventure along the river, where the group learned some new paddling skills, played games and even took a dip in the water. In the afternoon, they took on the challenge of the high ropes course, before rounding off the day on the climbing wall.

For many Young Carers, opportunities like this are about so much more than simply having a day out.

Their caring responsibilities can sometimes mean they have less time to spend with friends, try new activities or simply focus on themselves. Days like this give them the chance to step away from those responsibilities for a little while, have fun, build confidence, challenge themselves and spend time with other young people who understand some of the pressures they face.

A huge thank you to the brilliant course leaders, Callum and John, who supported the group throughout the day, and to everyone at Brathay Trust for helping to make the day such a memorable experience.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Tim Farron MP today at our new offices in Stricklandgate House today.

We discussed the important issues Unpaid Carers face in our rural community and the difficulties in reaching out to isolated Carers.

Tim has been a longstanding supporter of our charity. With 20+ years experience of travelling around this constituency, Tim lent some sage wisdom to us as we strive to get our name out there.

Perhaps we will see some of our Young Carers chatting with Tim in the Houses of Parliament soon? Watch this space!

Last week, our Young Carers enjoyed a fantastic day out at Brantwood on Coniston Water.

They started the day “Weaving with Nature”, getting creative and exploring the outdoors with the amazing Brantwood team.
After a picnic, it was time to get out on the water with a 45-minute trip on the Coniston Launch, followed by games, laughter and a lesson in stone skimming from our CEO!

For Young Carers, having time away from their caring responsibilities really matters. It gives them space to relax, have fun, make friends and simply enjoy being a young person — sharing experiences with others who understand what it’s like to be a Young Carer.

A huge thank you to Brantwood and Coniston Launch for helping make this special day possible. We’re so grateful for your support and for giving our Young Carers a day full of fun, friendship and memories.

On Tuesday, a dozen of our primary-aged Young Carers enjoyed a fun-filled Movement & Craft Day, giving them a well-deserved break from their caring responsibilities during the school holidays.

The morning began with an energetic fitness session led by Susie Anton, a local personal trainer, who put everyone through their paces with a range of fun and engaging activities. The focus was on enjoying movement, building confidence and showing that exercise can be a positive way to support both physical and emotional wellbeing.

In the afternoon, the Young Carers took part in a variety of arts and crafts activities, providing a chance to relax, be creative and spend time with other Young Carers who understand their experiences.

School holidays can often be particularly challenging for Young Carers, who may take on additional caring responsibilities while their peers are enjoying time off. Days like these provide an important opportunity for them to have fun, make new friends, build confidence and simply enjoy being children in a safe, supportive environment.
