Manna House, Cumbria Manna House is a charity that offers advice around housing and benefits. "Homeless? In affluent Kendal?" Yes, sadly true.

It also offers advocacy and support services for those who are homeless alongside other vulnerable people or adults experiencing temporary difficulties in the South Lakes area. Not all homeless people sleep rough, although too many are forced to. Some sleep on a friend's floor or sofa, others share crowded accommodation with extended family members, still more move from one temporary hostel or B&B

to another, not earning enough to save the necessary deposit for their own rented accommodation or, often, enough to pay private rental prices. Where do you go if you have to leave home because of domestic violence? What happens if your accommodation is tied to your job and you lose that within a week, or even a day, (as with many hotel workers)? How do you maintain a tenancy if you cannot read, so have no idea of the content of the numerous utility bills, council tax demands, etc., that all householders get? Suppose you need help with budgeting and shopping so that you have enough money left to pay your rent; who will help you? Some of our clients are sent on to us by the South Lakeland District Council Housing Department, who have limited emergency accommodation facilities in this area, and other local organisations such as, CAB, the Job Centre, Foodbank, Mind and many other partners.

Join us for a fantastic evening of live music, dancing, refreshments and community at the Manna House Ceilidh!

We're delighted to welcome local band Common Ground, who'll be providing the music for an evening of traditional ceilidh dancing that's suitable for everyone from complete beginners to seasoned dancers.

💜 Service Spotlight: Skills Café 💜

Our Skills Café is designed to promote health, wellbeing and life skills. The day is geared towards anyone who would like to expand their horizons and contribute to their community. We have a programme of different activities to suit most people.

Every Wednesday we ask anyone who visits to take part in the 10am Wednesday Skills Café Workshop or contribute to the Manna House community in some other way – it could be a bit of clearing up, help in the kitchen or maintenance work or just writing something on the Wall of Appreciation to help lift everyone’s mood.

And, after the workshop, anyone who’s taken part can join us for a delicious two-course home-cooked lunch at the Stephenson Centre. 🍽️
