A Special Thank You to Local Author Ed James!

We were delighted to welcome Scottish Borders crime fiction author Ed James, who very kindly popped into our care home with a selection of his books for our residents to enjoy!

Our Resident Companion, Cat, recently met Ed at a local author event, where they chatted about making his books accessible to our residents through the library service.

With plans to develop a residents' book group, Ed's generous donation couldn't have come at a better time!

His crime fiction series set right here in the Scottish Borders will bring a wonderful touch of local interest, along with plenty of mystery and intrigue, to our reading collection.

A huge thank you to Ed for his kindness and generosity, and for helping us encourage and celebrate a love of reading.

Following a recent unannounced visit, the Care Inspectorate praised our support for people’s wellbeing and our leadership, recognising the warm, compassionate and respectful relationships between our team and residents.

A heartfelt thank you to our staff for the care and commitment they bring every day, and to our residents, families and wider community for being part of life at QME Care.

The chief executive of an award-winning Scottish Borders care home has expressed her pride after it received a ringing endorsement from inspectors.

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Crown Ballet to QME Care for a beautiful performance, followed by a lovely meet & greet with our residents.

The dancers were simply wonderful and brought so much joy, elegance and magic to our afternoon. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed meeting them and watching their beautiful performance.

Thank you, Crown Ballet, for creating such a special memory for us!

A fascinating visit from Blood Bikes Scotland!

We were delighted to welcome Campbell (and Tim) from Blood Bikes Scotland to QME Care, who gave us a fascinating insight into the history and incredible work of this volunteer-run charity.

We were especially interested to hear that Blood Bikes Scotland began with just one motorcycle, with its service for the NHS Borders starting in 2014, before growing to provide a vital service across several NHS regions in Scotland.

And it’s not just blood! Blood Bikes transport a whole range of essential medical items, including blood and blood products, samples, medication, medical equipment and even donor breast milk for sick and premature babies.

The service is provided free of charge to the NHS by volunteers, helping to save valuable NHS resources and allowing money to be directed towards patient care.

A huge thank you to Campbell and Tim for taking the time to come and tell us all about the charity and the amazing work carried out by its volunteers.

We certainly learned a lot!

🍎 A Taste of Autumn at QME Care! 🍏

We welcomed a member of Crailing Community Orchard who told us all about the different apple varieties, including Worcester Pearmain and Stobo Castle.

Our residents enjoyed tasting the apples and sampling some delicious freshly pressed apple juice!
A lovely afternoon celebrating our local community and the flavours of autumn.

QME Care residents had a lovely outing to Ian Stark Equestrian Centre, where we enjoyed watching the RDA group session, and had tea with the ponies!

🏛️ A Journey Back 2,000 Years! 🏛️

Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming Rob from Trimontium Museum in Melrose to QME Care — and what a fascinating morning it was!

Rob had us absolutely enthralled with his stories of the Romans and the incredible history that happened right here on our doorstep. His passion and knowledge on the subject was amazing.

We were lucky enough to handle some amazing authentic archaeological artefacts.

Trimontium is recognised as one of the most important Roman sites north of Hadrian’s Wall.
It was wonderful to see the interest and enthusiasm from our residents, who gave Rob a spontaneous round of applause at the end of his talk!

A huge thank you to Rob for such an interesting, entertaining and memorable visit.

Today we held a QME Care British-themed restaurant event. We decorated the restaurant in red, white, and blue, played British music, and ate good old-fashioned traditional British food.
