Suffolk Army Cadets
Open to young people aged 12-18 in Suffolk
We build confidence, leadership, and life skills through adventure, teamwork and community activities. The Army Cadet Force is a national voluntary youth organisation sponsored by, but not part of, the Army. Under the guidance of 8,500 volunteer adult officers and instructors Army Cadets learn independence, responsibility and leadership through activities such as sport, adventurous training, music, first aid and military skills training; as well as taking part in communi-ty activities. Each year, the ACF takes over 20,000 young people to annual summer camps across the country and abroad.

All of our Companies have recently had their mop up training weekends. These are where any subjects from the Army Cadet curriculum that were either not covered or passed at Annual Camp can be addressed, to get cadets up to their next Star level 🤩

Not only do the cadets up their skills but they have a great time doing it!

We are looking for Cadets and CFAVs to join the team to help at the event. Please contact your DC for more information or to register your interest.

Army Cadets is a great way to learn new skills while having fun doing it! Our Hadleigh Detachment recently had a fun day of adventure training at Thorpe Woodlands as a well done for all of their hard work recently 🤩

Suffolk ACF have the honour of representing the ACF at the upcoming London Remembrance Weekend.

This weekend cadets from Suffolk ACF and Westbourne CCF (Army) participated in the preparation day. There were final uniform checks, drill and banner drill practice, presentations from the cadets about the various memorials they will see, various conflicts that will be remembered and people who will be remembered with links to Suffolk.

The Royal British Legion attended the event supporting the preparations and also giving a talk on the RBL including how people in Suffolk are assisted.

The Cadets now look forward to the event in November!

Ipswich HQ recently hosted Suffolk’s Lord Lieutenant Awards. A celebration of the achievements of those in the Reserve and Cadet Forces across the county 🤩

It also celebrates the induction of the four new Lord Lieutenant Cadets that will support our Lord Lieutenant in his duties across the year.

Congratulations to our own Capt Davison for receiving his Certificate of Meritorious Service and Cadet CSM Thurtle for her appointment as Lord Lieutenant Cadet representing Suffolk ACF. We are very proud of you both!

Skills for Life 💪

As we come to the end of we want to talk about the benefits of becoming either a cadet or an adult volunteer with us. Suffolk ACF can offer you skills for life, such as communication, independence and resilience as well as many others 🤩 All of these are valuable to set you up for your future and all of these are learnt while being adventurous, having fun and making friends 😊

A big thank you to all of you that have visited our detachments this week, it has been great to show you what we do. And a massive thank you and well done to those adult volunteers and cadets that have welcomed those visitors 🤩

We couldn’t do what we do without our fantastic adult volunteers and we thank each and every one of them this for their hard work and dedication in bringing an amazing experience to our cadets 🤩

Our Deputy Commandant has been with the army cadets for 36 years and received his 4th clasp on Annual Camp this year, presented by one of our cadets and his very own son! 👏👏

Cadets in the Community 🤩

A big part of cadet life is giving back to our community. We are so proud of our cadets who attend and help organisers with all sorts of events from the Suffolk Show to small village events.

The Cadet’s hard work is also appreciated by the organisers. We received this glowing praise recently for cadets from our Wattisham detachment that helped the British Legion at Wattisham Flying Station Day 👏:

‘they [the cadets] were all very polite, sensible, engaged extremely well with both us and the public and are a great credit to their detachment and the Army Cadets as a whole…we look forward to working with the Cadets again next year, on behalf of Suffolk County Royal British Legion thank you.’
