Friendship Club for August

Change of scenery for us this month as we have been at the Community Use Building in School Lane, still lots of activities though.

We had a very interesting talk with Nina from Age UK regarding the different types of scams out there, how to avoid them and in the unfortunate event of being scammed where to find support. Nina also signposted some of us to the help which is available from Age UK too.

A talk and demonstration from Twin Tigers in Honiton who came and showed us their Muay Thai moves. Safe to say we were in awe at their strength and all wish we were slightly younger so that we could join in too!

Our usual Tai Chi session with Chris, rounded off with bingo/raffle along with various quizzes /board games throughout the month too.

Please feel free to come and join us, we are back to our normal residence in Meadow View Chapel from 8th September, so if you or anyone you know would like tea, coffee biscuits and of course that all important company and laughter, get in touch with the office on 01404 46529 to book - we cannot wait to meet you!

A big thank you to Tesco in Honiton, and in particular the Community Manager, Duncan for their generous food donation they have given us this week.

Your support helps us with supplies for our Friendship Club over the coming months and raffle prizes for this month’s draw, which in turn helps our local community and the work TRIP does to make an impact to many people’s lives.

What a fabulous time we all had at the Honiton Show yesterday - thank you to all the organisers for putting on such a great event!

We met lots of interesting people and it was lovely to see so many of you enjoying the day in the sunshine 🌞.

Our very own Ross managed to find himself in the main arena, hoping to share as much information as he could about the vital work we do within our community. In between him telling you about our wonderful voluntary car service, ring and ride outings, friendship club and mobility shop, he even managed a few groovy moves on the scooter.....who knows, next year, we might even see him as part of the stunt bike group!

Until then, we'd be really grateful if you could continue to spread the word of the services we offer & if you think of anyone who might benefit from them, please do give us a call.

Friendship Club for the month of July!

This month we have been lucky enough to have talks from both Altzheimer”s UK and Sharandy’s Birds of Prey.

Our talk from Judith, the activities she provided gave us a greater understanding of Alzheimer’s, how we can support those around us and has led us all to becoming Dementia Friends. We would like to thank Judith for her time and answering our questions both during the session and afterwards on a 1:1 basis.

We were then lucky enough to have Sharandy’s Birds of Prey visit us with four of their beautiful owls. The talk which Sharon gave us regarding each of the owls was really informative, we now know what do to in many situations where we find owls/birds of prey. We also had a flying display from the barn owl which was truly amazing and got to hold the tawny owl, an experience we will never forget. A huge thank you to Sharon for coming to visit us and making the most wonderful memories.

Of course we also had our usual Tai Chi session with Chris and the end of month bingo and raffle.

We have temporarily relocated to the CUB on School Lane in Honiton, we are here until and including Tuesday 1st September.

Friendship Club is with Katy Foster Ceramics

A huge ‘thank you’ to Katy Foster Ceramics for spending the time with us to create our beautiful pieces of pottery. We have loved the process from beginning to end, even learning new skills along with way too!

Friendship Club - June

We have celebrated yet another special birthday this month, this time it was our June turning 80! We had a decades themed quiz, along with music, Charlie came to visit us from OJ Gyms, June’s favourite cake, balloons, banners, a present and card from us all. We had such a lovely morning and we hope you did too June!

As well as the above we had Chris with us doing Tai Chi, balloon exercises, a reminiscing box from Tiverton Museum with the theme of Summer holidays, we enjoyed sharing our holiday stories and with the help of the artefacts presented remembering how these fitted into our past too - in fact we’ve enjoyed this so much we’d like to do another one later in the year! Along with the usual last Tuesday of the month bingo and raffle.

Thank you to the Kitchen @ Combe for their cake donation, along with Dilly’s Florist who very kindly donated a beautiful plant for our raffle and of course Greggs for their delicious sausage rolls.

We have had a number of new people joining us recently and there is always room for more, so if you do know someone who would like to join in the fun please do call the office on 01404 46529. We looking forward to meeting you.

May Friendship Club

We have been lucky enough to celebrate David's 80th and Doreen's 90th birthdays this month with cards, gifts, balloons, banners, themed quizzes and music! We hope you enjoyed your special mornings as much as we did.

Along with those celebrations we've had our normal Tai Chi session, Katy Foster pottery back so that we could paint our masterpieces from the month before, decoupaged plant pots ready for our busy lizzies and of course the usual quizzes, bingo and raffle.

We would also like to thank Greggs in Honiton for their kind donations again this month along with the Kitchen at Combe for their very generous monthly cake donation too.

A special 'thank you' needs to go to our amazing volunteers who make our Friendship Club run smoothly and with a welcoming smile on their faces. They are Diane, Geraldine, Julie, Lisa, Jess, Tim and Paul. We could not run our club without you - so 'thank you'.

As always a very busy, but a very lovely time was had by all.
