Bridge Club at Glaven Caring!

Our first Bridge Club meeting was a great success.

Three bridge tables were set up to play Chicago style games. Jane and Alan had not played bridge before, they sat and watched with explanations flowing. Mark and Andy floated ensuring high standards were being maintained, though the noise level did rise just a touch and some errant dealing was mistakenly done.
After about an hour one pair from each table moved clockwise round the room, thus giving more opportunities to meet and play against new pairs.

As the evening drew towards the end refreshments were served and conversations flowed.

Thanks to Mark and Andy who announced that the “winners” were Hilary and Richard, followed by Molly and Alan, then Angela and Jane.
We agreed to meet again next Tuesday at 6pm

Bridge Club update.... our first game night is fixed!

Tuesday 25 August - 6pm to 8pm

At the Glaven Caring Centre NR2 7PH

The plan is to have "learning or teaching tables" in the Garden Room and in the Dining Room tables for the more experienced and competitive players. 7 people have confirmed for sure - please do let us know if you plan to attend

From September onwards Bridge night will take place every Tuesday evening 6pm to 8pm

And our popular Chess and Chat Club meets on Friday 21st August at 10:00 and thereafter every third Friday

Board Games and Chat - all welcome!

Chess or scrabble your thing?

At the chess tables, after a quick catch up, we play chess, perhaps not so much chat. The chat tends to be along the line “well that’s an interesting move but not perhaps the best you could make, how about trying this one instead”. It really is friendly and constructive.
the next Chess session is on Friday 21st August 2026 at 10:00, we normally finish by midday.

If you have thought about coming along but were nervous of losing, PLEASE DO COME! Your correspondent talks from a vast experience of losing…. We always have two sets set up but more are usually available for use if needed.

The Board Games and Chat seem to focus more on Scrabble, we have several avid players in the Centre and we would welcome anyone who wishes to join us for a game or two. Any day of the week , except Wednesdays when we are closed.

New Bridge Club update!

Want to play bridge? It can be confusing, but it is fun! Maybe you would like to learn to play bridge or are looking to improve your game?

If so, please come to our Steering Group Meeting. We have been asked to explore how much interest there is in playing bridge before we set up this new club. If there is sufficient take up the next question is how best to go about this!

ABSOLUTELY NO PRESSURE but do come if you would like this to go ahead in whatever form

Volunteer bus drivers wanted!

We are looking for volunteers to drive the Glaven Caring 8 seater bus. Daily shifts include driving the bus to pick up our clients in the morning and then return them home at around 2.30pm. There is a helper on board to assist on every journey. Insurance covered by Glaven Caring.

Calling all knitters and crocheters!

Would you like to help us raise funds for our clients to go on trips out and about - including seal trips? You can do by knitting or crocheting these cute seals which we can then sell to raise funds.

First meet up is Monday 13 July at Glaven Caring 10am to 12 noon. Please bring your hooks, needles and some wool - we have the patterns - you have the skill!
