ON 689 the 102 year old ex RNLI Manchester & Salford sailing Watson class lifeboat jobs this week:
1. Choosing the location for the 6 man liferaft which wasn’t easy, in the end it’s going on the wheelhouse top, this involved drilling the 18 mm holes and epoxying them as areas to re drill in thickened epoxy rather thank bolting in the plywood deck which always cause rot later so sealing the plywood holes is vital and it ensures the sheathing is also protected on the edges. Just need to re drill when set an then we can fit the life raft frame next week.
2. Wiring the plug for the portal fridge which needed a plug to feed the 12 volt DC and fitting fuses etc.
3. Fitting the new ( second) alternator which will give us high output 12 volts charging at 140 amps. Which means we have two alternators 12 and 24 volt each up to 140 amp. We plasma cut all the parts on a CNC and welded up the parts all custom made by us. It fits perfectly and is now ready for wiring up which is next weeks job.
4. Getting the wheelhouse heating thermostat wires routed.
5. Wiring the 12 volt dc plug in the cockpit for a compass light etc.
6. Fitting two lanyard points in the cockpit to keep crew on/ in the boat in rough weather for safety.
Huge thanks to John W, Pete, Chris and Apple……thank you it would not be possible without you!
