We’re recruiting friendly and dependable people to join our Help in the Home team across Hertfordshire.

As a Home Helper, you’ll support older people with everyday tasks such as cleaning, light housework or picking up a few essentials. You’ll also bring a familiar face and friendly conversation, helping people feel comfortable and continue living independently at home.

The hours are flexible, the work is local and full training is provided. You don’t need previous experience, just a caring nature, reliability and a willingness to lend a hand.

It's Loneliness Awareness Week!
It’s easy to assume loneliness only affects people who are on their own. But it’s not always that simple.

You can have a full diary, see people regularly, even spend time with family over Easter… and still feel a bit disconnected. A bit unseen.

That feeling is more common than we think 💜

If this sounds familiar, or you’re worried about someone else, there are small, practical steps that can really help. Whether that’s reaching out to someone, finding local support, or just understanding those feelings a bit better.

Take a look at this guide for ideas and support: https://bit.ly/4g9QIMX

And if you’re local to Hertfordshire, remember you’re not on your own. We’re here, and we’re always happy to listen.

Carers Week runs 8–14 June, and this year it feels closer to home than ever.

So many people across Hertfordshire are quietly caring for someone they love. A parent. A partner. A neighbour. Often without much recognition, and sometimes without even thinking of themselves as a carer at all.

There are 5.8 million unpaid carers in the UK, and more than half say they often or always feel overwhelmed. That's a lot of people carrying a lot.

If you're caring for an older person and are unsure what support is available, our free Information and Advice service is here to help. We can talk through benefits, local services, care options and much more. No referral needed. Just a friendly conversation with someone who knows their stuff.

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we want to say one more heartfelt thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who give their time, kindness and care to Age UK Hertfordshire.

This week, we’ve shared a few photos of our wonderful social club volunteers receiving their thank you cards and little treats, but they are just the tip of the iceberg. Behind the scenes, across our services and communities, our volunteers are helping to brighten days, reduce loneliness, support independence and change lives every single day.

We love welcoming new volunteers into the Age UK Hertfordshire family, and we are just as grateful for our experienced, dedicated volunteers, including some who have been with us for 10 years or more.

You are the driving force behind so much of what we do, and we simply couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you for being part of our team. 💙

A little thank you for some very special people 💜

Our social club volunteers bring so much warmth, joy and care to our Active Ageing clubs. They help make each session feel friendly, welcoming and homely, and our club members appreciate them so much.

This year, we wanted to thank them personally with a card from our team and members, plus a small chocolate treat.

Thank you to all of our lovely club volunteers. Our clubs would not be the same without you. 🥰

Happy Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈

This June, we're thinking about all the older LGBTQIA+ people in our community. People who have lived through so much change. Who have loved, lost, fought for rights that many younger generations take for granted today.

Getting older brings its own challenges. And for many older LGBTQIA+ people, those challenges can feel a little lonelier, or a little more complex, than others might realise.

That's why Age UK has pulled together information and advice specifically for older LGBTQIA+ adults. Everything from understanding your rights, to finding social groups where you can meet people who truly get it.

Because staying connected matters. And everyone deserves to feel seen.

It's Volunteers' Week, and we just want to say: thank you.

To the befrienders who pick up the phone and make someone's day a little brighter.

To the volunteers who turn up week after week to keep our active ageing clubs full of life, laughter and movement. To those who sit patiently and help someone understand their benefits, their options and their rights. And to the visiting volunteers who knock on a door and remind someone that they haven't been forgotten.

Every single one of you shows up for older people in Hertfordshire, and it matters more than you know.

We are so grateful. Genuinely. ⭐💜
