📢 We're looking for someone to join our team!

Are you a good communicator who enjoys helping people? We're recruiting a Service Support Assistant to join our Information and Advice team at Age UK Hertfordshire.

You'll help older people across the county get in touch with our service, answering telephone and online enquiries and helping them find the information and support they're looking for.

If you're friendly, organised and enjoy working with people, we'd love to hear from you!

💷 Salary: £24,752 per year
🕒 35 hours per week, full time
📍 Hertford office for training, then hybrid working
📄 12-month fixed-term contract, with potential to extend

We also offer training and development, a contributory pension scheme and a healthcare plan after a qualifying period.

💜 One hour a week. A friendship that means so much.

This Befriending Week, we're celebrating the friendships that grow through our Visiting Scheme.

Our wonderful volunteers spend around an hour each week visiting an older person in their local community. Sometimes it's a cup of tea and a good chat. Other times it's sharing stories, talking about favourite books or simply enjoying each other's company.

But what does that hour mean to the people we visit?

We asked them in our annual survey, and here's just a small snapshot of what they told us:

💬 "Finding a person who lifts my spirits."

💬 "It has given me a window on the outside world."

💬 "The hour a week is something to look forward to and I love the chit chat."

💬 "Made a new friend."

💬 "I now have someone I look forward to seeing, and made me feel less lonely."

For someone who spends much of their time at home, having a familiar face to look forward to each week can mean so much.

Our Tea & Chat clubs are a great way for older people to get out of the house, meet local people and enjoy a relaxed morning or afternoon together. Whether you fancy a friendly chat, a game of bingo or simply a cup of tea in good company, there's always a warm welcome waiting. 💙

🚁 A brilliant afternoon with the FellaShip group!

Our FellaShip group in Hemel Hempstead recently enjoyed something a little different, a fantastic drone experience! There was plenty to see, learn and chat about, and the feedback from the men says it all. 💙

FellaShip is a friendly, relaxed group for men who provide care or support for a family member, friend or neighbour.

It's a chance to enjoy some time for yourself, meet other men who understand and try something new. There's always a cuppa and a warm welcome waiting!

Our Jaswant Club in Letchworth welcomed a local police officer during Hate Crime Awareness Week for a talk about hate crime and staying safe in the community.

Could you help someone overcome the everyday difficulties that stop them eating well?

We’re looking for a Support Worker to Dietetics to join our partnership with Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust.

Working alongside dietitians, you’ll support people affected by social malnutrition, helping them access practical support such as shopping services or transport, and befriending where loneliness may be part of the picture.

You don’t need experience in nutrition. We offer training and development to help you in the role.

📍 Based in St Albans, working across West Hertfordshire
🕒 Job share, 17.5 hours a week: Wednesday afternoon (3.5 hours), Thursday and Friday (7 hours each)
💷 £13,140.50 a year (£26,281 full-time equivalent)
🚗 A full UK driving licence and daily use of a car are essential.

Benefits include a contributory pension and a health care plan after an initial qualifying period.

He did it! 🏔️👏 Our CEO, Mark, successfully completed the Three Peaks Challenge at the weekend alongside other charity leaders!

A big thank you to WALX Ver Valley St Albans for providing Mark's walking poles for the challenge, and to everyone who has donated. We also want to thank our clients and volunteers for supporting Mark during his training. You’ve been part of this achievement too! 💙

Our free Winter Welfare Checks offer practical support to older people and other Hertfordshire residents who are struggling to stay warm and safe at home.

Depending on your needs, we may be able to help with:

🪟 Draught-proofing windows and doors
🔥 Radiator foil and radiator cleaning to improve efficiency
💡 Low-energy light bulbs and night lights
🛏️ Winter duvets, electric blankets and portable heaters, where appropriate
🌡️ Setting heating timers and thermostats
🔢 Taking meter readings
💬 Advice on keeping warm

The service runs between October and March. We’ll start with a phone call to understand your circumstances, with support prioritised for those most in need.
