Tonight, as England national football team walk out, it’s worth remembering where it all started for these players.

Before the big stadiums and TV cameras, there were parks, early mornings, and volunteers giving up their weekends to make football happen for the community.

But it’s getting harder.

Extreme weather is disrupting grassroots football more and more, and for a lot of clubs it’s becoming impossible to ignore.

If we want the next generation to have the same chance, we need to protect the places where football begins.

On New Year's Day 2025, the River Mersey burst its banks and submerged 's sports ground - devastating the community that relies on it.

Thanks to an inspiring effort from members, volunteers, and supporters, the club has recovered from the immediate damage.

But with extreme weather becoming more common, we're now proud to be matching donations to keep the pitches playable year-round and prevent more cancelled games.

THEY DID IT! Old Northamptonians have smashed their target of £10,000, and we've matched their efforts with an additional £10,000!

This means the club can install vital, nature based solutions that will help to protect grassroots sport from the effects of extreme weather for generations to come.

Massive congrats, this is huge for 👏🎆

Gary Lineker was asked "What's your favourite Grassroots memory" - and his answer told an incredible story.

Grassroots allows young players to develop a love of sport, and for their skills to be discovered.

But it's under threat from increasingly extreme weather.

OUR CAMPAIGN IN ACTION!

🌱 What a wonderful day spent with the Old Northamptonians community as we continue making progress with our campaign 💚

Today was all about bringing people together, getting hands-on with nature-based solutions, and creating something that will benefit both people and wildlife for years to come.

From planting pollinator-friendly plants and creating habitats, to learning how to make bird boxes alongside the amazing team at the Wildlife Trust, it was fantastic to see so many people getting involved 🐝🦋🐦

By using nature-based solutions like planting schemes and wildlife habitats, we’re helping tackle flooding while creating spaces where nature can thrive.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, helped out, and made the day such a success. Days like this show what communities can achieve when we work together.

Great for communities. Great for nature. Great fun. 🌍💚

We can’t wait to see the final result and watch these spaces grow 🌿

It's foundational to a child’s physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence, resilience, and sense of belonging.

When we invest in play, we invest in potential. That’s why our supporters feel so strongly that grassroots sport needs protection from increasingly extreme weather.

Young people and women are being pushed off pitches in favour of men's games, meaning people aren't getting a chance to play.

Grassroots is for everyone, and we're going to make sure it stays that way.
