💚♻️ DID YOU KNOW? ♻️💚 Sixteen years ago, long before The Honesty Jar existed, our founder Samantha was already running community reuse spaces.
Back then there was no permanent shop, no sorting room and no storage containers. Just a simple idea: good-quality resources shouldn't go to waste, and nobody should be excluded because they can't afford something.
Those early projects popped up in village halls, fields, festivals and community events. The principle was exactly the same as it is today:
💚 Pay what you feel
♻️ Reuse what already exists
🤝 Support one another
🌍 Reduce waste
Six years ago that vision found a permanent home when The Honesty Jar opened its doors in Henstridge.
But this week, things are coming full circle...
The Honesty Jar is going on tour! 🚚♻️
This weekend marks our first pop-up event of the year at the wonderful Green Scythe Fair near Langport, where Samantha, her family and a fantastic team of other volunteers are helping to prepare the site.
And this isn't your average event setup.
In keeping with the fair's low-impact, community-focused ethos, much of the work is done with HORSEPOWER! 🐴
There are currently horses walking between local storage sites and the showground, transporting infrastructure that has been carefully stored over winter and is now being brought back to life.
Across the site, volunteers are busy putting up fences, signs and marquees, building compost toilets, installing water systems, creating fire points and preparing everything needed for a safe and welcoming weekend.
It's hard work, but there's something rather magical about watching a community come together to build an event from the ground up.
If you're visiting the Green Scythe Fair this weekend, please come and say hello! 👋
You'll find us at the Swap Shop, and we'll also be running family-friendly craft activities using natural and recycled materials in the children's area. 🎨🌿
Every penny raised at these pop-up events helps support The Honesty Jar back home in Henstridge, where we now rehome around 100 tonnes of donations every year.
What started as a simple idea in a field 16 years ago is still growing, still evolving, and still powered by the same belief:
💚 Communities are stronger when we share resources
💚 Good things deserve a second chance
💚 Kindness is something worth investing in
We hope to see some familiar faces this weekend! 🌿🐴♻️
