💚 Great Big Green Week 💚

Every June, thousands of events take place across the country. From repair cafés and nature walks to community clean-ups and film screenings. People everywhere come together for good and make a real difference.

The week is an opportunity to be inspired to try new things, as well as a reminder that every action counts.

At Penrose in the walled garden there are examples of how the volunteer gardeners upcycle containers to protect seedlings and young plants, and by the Stables café, you can often find bags of used coffee grounds. These are ready to take home to make use of again in your garden.

What can you do that makes a difference?

It’s Volunteers’ Week, and from all of the volunteer managers, we’d love to say a huge thank you to our amazing volunteers. 💚

From welcoming visitors to helping protect all our special places, your time, care and commitment make such a difference every single day.

Lydia and Jess would like to share a personal thank you from all the volunteer managers. We’re so grateful for all the hard work, enthusiasm and kindness you bring to the National Trust, thank you for all that you do. We truly couldn’t do it without you.

Time for tea?

If you're exploring Penrose, pop into the Stables café and enjoy a cream tea with a dollop of jam and Cornish clotted cream.

(If you need an excuse, it's International Tea Day ☕)

Every cuppa or treat you buy helps us to continue looking after places for everyone to enjoy.

No Mow May... one of the easiest ways to help the environment.

Penrose’s walled garden is once again letting the grass and wildflowers grow freely. A simple act with a surprisingly powerful impact.

Even the smallest patch left a little wilder can provide vital food and habitat needed by bees, butterflies and other wildlife.

The conservation charity Plantlife started No Mow May in 2019 and it's a great way to boost nature ready for summer. But the campaign is not just about May, so there's always time to join in. Find out more at https://www.plantlife.org.uk/campaigns/nomowmay/

This Mental Health Awareness Week, the Mental Health Foundation is encouraging us to take action.

For yourself, they suggest choosing one positive action that works for you - find your one thing to boost your mental health.

Taking a walk is one approach to lifting mood, and can help us relax and sleep better. But even a few moments outdoors in nature can help raise our spirits.

We have volunteer led walks that our are a great opportunity to join others for some fresh air and time in nature. The walks are open to everyone, regardless of walking experience or ability. The walks are free (car parking charges may apply) and booking is often not required (please check our website events page for full details).
