During the week commencing 12 October, some of our cadets headed off on a very special adventure aboard the James Cook, a sail training vessel operated by Ocean Youth Trust North.

The voyage took them along the beautiful Northumberland coast before heading south to Hartlepool, giving them the opportunity to experience life at sea and take on new challenges along the way.

Life aboard a sailing vessel is about much more than simply enjoying the views! Our cadets had the chance to develop their seamanship skills, learn about life on board and discover just how important teamwork, communication and resilience are when you're part of a crew.

Experiences like this can build confidence, encourage independence and create memories that last a lifetime. We hope our cadets returned to dry land feeling proud of what they achieved and inspired by their time at sea.

A huge thank you to The Ulysses Trust for providing funding to help make this opportunity possible. Your support helps give our young people access to experiences they might not otherwise have had.

We're also grateful to the team at Ocean Youth Trust North for providing the James Cook and supporting young people to learn and grow through adventure under sail.

Well done to all the cadets and volunteers who took part!

Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, fought on 21 October 1805.

The battle saw the Royal Navy, commanded by Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, defeat a larger combined French and Spanish fleet. It was a significant moment in British naval history, but the victory came at a great cost. Lord Nelson was fatally wounded during the battle, and we remember him and all those who lost their lives.

Trafalgar Day remains an important date in Royal Navy tradition, celebrating our maritime heritage and remembering the people who have served at sea throughout history.

During National Cadets Week, we highlighted all the amazing things cadets get involved in but for the cadets to be able to do them, our volunteers have to be trained to run the courses. Over the last couple of weeks, some of TS Kelly have been busy doing just that.

PSgt Fairweather and PPO Brown have ticked off more of their core modules and this weekend PO (SCC) Jordan did his basic CIS Radio, starting him on the path of becoming our CIS Instructor.

And that's a wrap on the UK's very first National Cadets Week!

A huge thank you to everyone who supports TS Kelly – our cadets, parents and families, volunteers, former cadets, local organisations, community partners and everyone who has ever donated, shared a post or simply told someone about what we do.

Most importantly, thank you to our cadets.

You're the reason we're here.

Here's to the next chapter of the TS Kelly story. ⚓💙

We've reached the final day of the first ever National Cadets Week.

Over the last week we've celebrated our history, our community, our volunteers, the skills cadets develop and everything that makes being part of the Sea Cadets special.

But one week isn't really enough.

Every week, up and down the country, cadets are learning, volunteering, challenging themselves and making memories.

So while National Cadets Week might be coming to an end, the work carries on.

And so does the adventure. âš“

What does being a Sea Cadet actually mean?

It can mean learning to sail.

It can mean standing on parade.

It can mean first aid, cooking, navigation, music, camping, sport, leadership or learning how to tie a knot that you definitely couldn't tie yesterday.

It can mean making your best friends.

It can mean doing something that scares you a little.

It can mean discovering something you're really good at.

And sometimes it simply means finding somewhere where you belong.

There's no single Sea Cadet experience.

You make your own.

Hebburn Sea Cadets wouldn't be anything without the volunteer instructors. Our uniformed staff. The people who are with our young people, week in, week out. Throughout the years, our CFAVs have been the backbone of everything we do.

We asked our current crew why they do what they do. Starting with our CO, Lt (SCC) Towns RNR, have a read though and see what some of them say about their life in the Sea Cadets.

It's Spotlight Day! 🔦⚓

Today is about shining a light on the amazing things happening across the Cadet Forces.

From local units like TS Kelly to national events and everything in between, thousands of young people are getting involved, learning new skills, challenging themselves and having adventures.

And somewhere behind all of that are thousands of volunteers giving their time to make those opportunities possible.

So today, we're shining the spotlight on all of them.

Our cadets. Our volunteers. Our families. Our supporters. Our communities.

This is what the Cadet Forces look like.
