Over the past weekend, cadets from our Squadron proudly took part in the Wing Athletics Competition, competing against fellow cadets from Squadrons across the Wing in a range of track and field events. Our cadets represented the Squadron with pride, demonstrating determination, sportsmanship, and commitment throughout the competition.

The Wing Athletics Competition provides cadets with the opportunity to test their physical fitness, challenge themselves in a competitive environment, and develop important qualities such as discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence. Throughout the event, cadets competed in a variety of athletic disciplines, supporting one another and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship both on and off the track.

Events such as this play an important role in cadet development, encouraging participants to set personal goals, overcome challenges, and build resilience. Taking part in the Wing Athletics Competition is a significant achievement, requiring dedication, effort, and determination. Congratulations to all of our cadets who took part and represented the Squadron so well, particularly for the perseverance they demonstrated while competing in the exceptionally hot weather. Their efforts were a credit to themselves, the Squadron, and the Wing. From here, successful competitors will soon take part in representing Durham-Northumberland Wing, at the regional competition in Leeds. All the best luck for them.

Over the past weekend, cadets from our Squadron proudly took part in a Wing Adventure Training (AT) Challenge held across Saturday and Sunday. Five cadets successfully completed the demanding event, demonstrating the skills they had developed throughout their training and representing the Squadron with pride. Despite the weather doing it’s very best to keep things “interesting,” on the Saturday walk with a fair share of rain and challenging conditions throughout the weekend, the cadets showed outstanding determination, resilience, and teamwork in a challenging outdoor environment. Congratulations to all five cadets on this impressive achievement and the commitment they displayed while representing both the Squadron and the Wing.

The Adventure Training Challenge is designed to test cadets in a variety of outdoor activities, requiring participants to work together, adapt to changing conditions, challenging terrain and complete a series of physically and mentally demanding tasks over the course of the weekend. Throughout the event, cadets were challenged on their navigation, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Events such as this provide cadets with valuable opportunities to build confidence, develop essential life skills, and strengthen their resilience in unfamiliar and demanding situations. Participating in the Wing AT Challenge is a significant accomplishment, demonstrating perseverance, cooperation, and a strong commitment to personal development, whatever the weather may bring.

Over the past weekend cadets from our Squadron proudly took part in their assessed Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition, successfully completing the demanding journey and demonstrating the skills they had developed throughout their training. Despite the weather doing its very best to keep things “interesting” (with more than a few unexpected showers along the way), their hard work and determination highlighted their dedication, resilience, and teamwork in a challenging outdoor environment. Congratulations to all the cadets on this impressive achievement and the commitment they showed in representing our Squadron.

The Duke of Edinburgh expedition is a key part of the DofE programme, requiring participants to plan, train for, and complete a self-sufficient journey over two days. Covering significant distances on foot, cadets must navigate, carry their own equipment, and work together to overcome both physical and mental challenges-occasionally while perfecting the art of walking in the rain. The expedition tests not only endurance but also teamwork, problem-solving, and self-reliance.

This experience offers cadets the opportunity to build confidence, develop essential life skills, and gain a strong sense of achievement. Completing the assessed expedition is a significant milestone, demonstrating perseverance, cooperation, and a commitment to personal development-rain or shine!

Over the past weekend, Cpl White, Sgt Storey and SGT Lennard proudly took part in the WARMA event, successfully completing the demanding marches and earning their Silver Road Marching Badge and the WARMA medal. Their hard work, determination demonstrated their dedication and endurance. Congratulations to both cadets on this impressive achievement and the commitment they showed in representing our Squadron.

The WARMA (Walking and Road Marching Association) event is an annual military and civilian road-marching challenge held in the UK. Participants must complete a series of long-distance marches over two days, typically covering 30 to 40 kilometers per day. The event tests not only physical fitness but also discipline and resilience aswell as bringing close to the Nijmegan marches.

This event offers cadets the chance to build both mental and physical strength and gain valuable experience in endurance marching. Completing such a challenging event boosts confidence and pride. It’s an achievement that demonstrates perseverance, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence.

At the weekend 2 of our cadets went to the National Cadet Air Rifle Meeting (Nat_CARM) 2026 at Bisley. Cpl Lachowicz and Cpl Deacon formed half of the Durham Northumberland team which competed against cadets from the SCC, ACF and CCF. This led to Cpl Lachowicz gaining his gold marksmanship badge and Cpl Deacon gaining the new Cadet 50 Badge.

In addition to her performance on the day, Cpl Deacon was awarded the prestigious Boulter Cup for being the top-scoring cadet representing Royal Air Force Air Cadets at the event. This win is a fantastic personal achievement and marks a first for Durham Northumberland Wing.

Cpl Deacon also earned a Silver Medal as part of the RAFAC team, helping secure 2nd place in the inter-services final. The team delivered an exceptional performance, narrowly missing out on first place to the Army Cadet Force.
