The Rose & Crown, Stansted Mountfitchet, is to support more member of the local community with free meals and cooking classes for young people.

Publican Stacy Whiffen has made it her mission to support the local community and those in need. The pub has long supported the local community with charity fundraising events.

At the centre of this mission to support the local community is a powerful partnership between Stacy and her daughter, Head Chef Abigail Cowley. Abigail leads a team of seven young adults, who train alongside her to learn essential cooking, food preparation, and hygiene skills.

This has been made possible with a grant from Pub is The Hub supported by the Department for Business and Trade.

The White Cross Inn, Groeswen is stepping up its mission to bring people together and tackle social isolation by expanding its calendar of community and charity events.
With the addition of gazebos and a new TV system the pub is set to host even more events for residents in this rural community, including bigger gatherings and better facilities for local groups and charities.

The gazebos will support a packed programme of activities from summer fetes and the annual Village Party to events run by community groups, charities, and sports teams such as the local cricket team.

The new TV system, which integrates with PA equipment supported by Pub is The Hub in 2024, will enable everything from farmers’ meetings and historical talks to quizzes, karaoke and movie nights. It also strengthens the support already offered to popular local groups such as Knit and Natter, the Beerbellies Club, sports teams and the Wacky Wanderers walking group.

This has been made possible by access to a grant from Pub is The Hub, supported by the Department for Business and Trade as part of its Hospitality Support Fund, which aims to strengthen rural communities by helping pubs diversify and remain sustainable community assets.

The Butchers Arms in Carhampton, near Minehead, has made the pub the real hub of its community by adding services and space to help people socialise and connect including a village store and café, community library as well as adding a PA and projection system.

Four generations of the same family sold their homes and travelled over 200 miles from Manchester to buy the empty West Somerset pub. Publican Nick Moores, moved in with his son Jasper, his parents Tina and Frank, and 90-year-old grandfather Rex.

The revamped village store and café now boast a brand new seating area, giving locals a cosy place to meet over coffee, cake and conversation. The shop has also broadened its range, stocking more chilled goods and a growing selection of products from local suppliers.

To support older residents and those feeling isolated, the pub has opened a new community library, a warm, inviting space where people can sit, meet, read and relax. The new PA and projection system has unlocked more opportunities for community events.

This has been made possible by access to a grant from Pub is The Hub, supported by the Department for Business and Trade as part of its Hospitality Support Fund, which aims to strengthen rural communities by helping pubs diversify and remain sustainable community assets.

The Ty'n Llan in Llandwrog, Wales, is enhancing its support for local residents by expanding its community facilities to support social connection and accessibility.

The pub has introduced new IT equipment, including a monitor and projector, in its community room called Y Stabal (The Stable). This upgrade means that groups such as the local young people’s group (Ty’n Llan Ni), the lunch club, Chair Yoga club and gardening group can run activities such as presentations, films, workshops and training with online access.

The pub has also installed a hard-standing base in the garden that will allow the area to host social events in a safe and inclusive way.

In addition, a new footpath now connects the pub and its village store, giving older and less mobile residents easier access to this essential local service.

This has been made possible by access to a grant from Pub is The Hub, supported by the Department for Business and Trade as part of its Hospitality Support Fund, which aims to strengthen rural communities by helping pubs diversify and remain sustainable community assets.
