It was our pleasure to welcome The Richmond Fellowship Scotland and show off our ceramic collections recently.
We'd a lovely time learning about different designs together and using the museum ceramic collection as inspiration (Aileen especially loves Clarice Cliff's designs!) The team looks forward to welcoming more groups to Low Parks Museum in the future. πŸ™‚

This week is not only but also !

Joseph, one of our longstanding volunteers, shared his thoughts with us about what it is like to volunteer with us.

β€œI have enjoyed every minute of my volunteering at Low Parks Museum and have gained skills that I can apply to both my university studies in history and my future career. I always feel part of the team when I’m volunteering here. It means a lot to me to be volunteering at this museum. I first went to Low Parks with my gran and grandad when I was a toddler and they took me there many times. So to now be volunteering in one of the first museums I ever visited feels like a full circle moment for me. I look forward to the future projects the museum has in store for me!”

Today's theme is Fun in Museums. It's all about challenging the preconception that museums are only serious places.

We are shining a huge, theatrical spotlight on one of the most joyful, vibrant, and fun highlights of our collection: the legendary Sir Harry Lauder Collection!

Before international stadium tours existed, Harry was selling millions of records and packing out variety theatres worldwide with pure entertainment. Our Nationally Significant Collection is packed with theatrical fun, including his amusing twisted walking sticks.

Today's theme is If Objects could Speak. It's all about the stories inside museums!

We chose to highlight Photograph of of Inspector David Richardson and Family, part of our Rutherglen collection. Inspector Richardson was the Police Inspector and Fire Chief for Rutherglen. The family moved to Canada in 1913. The boy is James Cleland Richardson VC who was killed in action whilst serving with the Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment) on 09/10/1916. James was a piper and after piping the men over into battle in the Somme he was detailed to bring back a wounded comrade, realising that he had left his pipes behind he went back for them, he was never seen again.

third theme is Peace.

Our museum collection is not just a window into the past, but also a bridge to bring people together, spark meaningful conversations, and foster mutual respect. We chose to interpret today's theme as the inner peace people feel throughout life. It is all about the peace one can find in nature, in making memories with your family and friends.

Is there an object that represents peace to you?

second theme is Museums x AI: Futures

Continuing from the topic from yesterday, we want to know what our digital community imagines AI will be like in twenty years. Do you think we will have a museum that can talk directly with each visitor? How do you think our museum collection might change if AI helped us care for it?

The image was captured by one of our amazing front of house staff at the end of April.
