Join us this Saturday at the magnificent Hamilton Mausoleum for our annual participation in Doors Open Days. Between 11-3pm visitors will be welcomed for an opportunity to visit the chapel without charge.

In an entertaining addition to previous years, we've invited some of our musical friends to help demonstrate the world-famous echo. Our friends of SL Harmonics will be treating us to a short choral set at midday and the unique musical talents of Peter Govan can be experienced from 1.30pm

It is with sadness we share that proud Cameronian, Don Turrell passed away on Friday, aged 101.

The D-Day veteran, who saw service in Operation Jupiter at Normandy, was conveyed to the home of Regimental Collection back in August 2025, by a London black cab, thanks to the Taxi Charity For Military Veterans. We were privileged to be able to welcome him with charity representatives, civic and community leaders, our regimental family and museum staff. It was a splendid day of friendship and memories, a fitting conclusion to our 80th anniversary of WW2 commemorations. We will remember our time together fondly.

Our deepest sympathies go to his family, friends and comrades. Don will be remembered with real affection and gratitude.

Everyone at Low Parks would like to share our heartiest congratulations to our Laura and her Karl on their nuptials today. We want to wish them every happiness for their future together.
We're particularly proud of their ringbearer Samwise (pictured) and are sure he executed his very important role in proceedings with aplomb since he is the best boy!

To mark the end of this session, the brilliant builders of Low Parks Lego Club joined forces on Saturday to plan and create Brian's Street. And would you just look at how amazing it is!

Among the many planned features of the stupendous street, we have the Rainbow Hotel, and not one but two beaches. The public parks feature fine statues and cafés, and there's even a Zany Zoo! As ever, Saturday's builds are on display in reception until the next session.

Low Parks Lego Club will resume in October.

Open to all, our Lego Club welcomes everyone to build to the weekly theme or enjoy building their own individual projects. Only £4.25 per session, advance booking encouraged as spaces are limited.

Commemorative medal - Sinking of the Lusitania 1915

RMS Lusitania was a British Ocean Liner which was sunk by German forces off the southern coast of Ireland. The incident, which resulted in the death of most of its passengers, caused public outrage as the vessel was carrying civilians and dramatically turned public opinion against Germany.

The medal was stored inside a cardboard box with an illustration of the ship on the lid. This object is part of our Rutherglen museum collection and it was digitises as part of our R900:Rediscovering Rutherglen project. It's origins are not known, it could be that the family of one of the victims of this passage was from Rutherglen, or perhaps it was collected by someone with a background in Rutherglen's shipbuilding past. Whatever its origins, it effectively showcases how wide and diverse the Rutherglen collection is.

We're always very proud of our team but we're over the moon to see Mary-Ann's quick thinking recognised in the inaugural award of SLLC's new Employee Recognition Scheme. 🎉

Our new Employee Recognition Scheme crowned its first winner this month with Mary-Ann Rae, Site Assistant, from Low Parks Museum, Hamilton receiving the inaugural award. 🎉

Mary-Ann won the award for her quick thinking and calmness under pressure when a catering oven caught fire.

She kept a cool head, unplugged the oven, and tackled the fire with the appropriate extinguisher before it could spread.

Mary-Ann said: “I was overwhelmed and happy to receive this award, I even shed a few tears when I found out that I not only had been nominated by own manager but three others as well!

“I think my swift reactions to the fire were down to the training I had received from SLLC’s Health and Safety team.

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Chief Executive Nick Lansdell said: “I was privileged to have the opportunity to recognise Mary Ann's outstanding contribution and commitment to SLLC, and for living our values while tackling what was a particularly challenging situation.

“I am absolutely delighted that SLLC's Employee Recognition programme is firmly back on the agenda, and what a fantastic way to relaunch it, with a truly deserving winner.”

Mary-Ann has chosen two tickets to an SLLC produced show as her prize and is excited to try something new.
