*Ṣalāt al-Kusūf*
Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Tomorrow, there will be a partial solar eclipse. It is an Emphasised Sunnah to pray *Ṣalāt al-Kusūf* — two rak‘at of Nafl prayer — as Rasulullah ﷺ did.
*Key points:*
- *Qirā’ah*: Quiet/low recitation is preferred, following Imam Abu Hanifa رحمه الله, but it is also permissible to recite aloud. Long qirā’ah is Sunnah, e.g. from Surah Baqarah, Aal ‘Imran etc. If short, fill the time with du‘ā and dhikr.
- *Congregation*: 2 rak‘at only. No Adhān, no Iqāmah. An announcement is made instead.
- *No Khuṭbah before* the Ṣalāh. A brief reminder after is permissible to clarify the Islamic view and remove misconceptions, as the Prophet ﷺ did.
- *Duration*: Ideally continue in Ṣalāh, dhikr, du‘ā and istighfār until the eclipse ends.
*Other recommended actions during an eclipse:*
Charity, seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave and Hell, tasbīḥ, takbīr, du‘ā, and istighfār.
*For those unable to come to the Masjid*: Ladies and others can pray 2 rak‘at individually at home and engage in dhikr and du‘ā.
*At MMI we will pray Ṣalāt al-Kusūf in congregation at 6:55pm, inshāAllah.*
Please come to the Masjid as soon as the eclipse begins and stay in dhikr until it finishes.
