Spring into Action CIC

Spring into Action CIC Spring into Action is a community interest company based in Blackburn, Lancashire. The options on leaving school were college, then onto day centres.

We set up in 2012 and have a vision of an inclusive society where people with learning disabilities can fully participate. Spring into Action is a community interest company based in Accrington in East Lancashire. Our aims are to provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to engage in activities, volunteer within services and find employment. We aim to raise awareness of the abili

ty of people within the wider community, and raise aspirations of people with disabilities to achieve more. Our services and activities over the past ten years have been developed and delivered with people with lived experience and include: sports and arts projects, volunteer training including Sports Leaders awards; delivery of inclusion workshops. We also run a friendship and dating agency (), bringing people with learning disabilities and autistic adults together for meaningful friendships and relationships. Through this work we also run social events and deliver s*x and relationship workshops. We were set up by Lucy Hamlin, Rachael McHugh and Dawn Vickers in 2012 after they recognised there were limited opportunities for young people with learning disabilities to take a meaningful and active role in society. Lucy and Rachael worked for a youth group for young people up to age 25 with SEN and created opportunities for people to use their abilities, rather than be held back by any disability.

Do you care for a young person or adult with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD, and are you worried that they may go missing?

There are things you can do to prepare for this by completing a Know Me to Help Me form.

Know Me to Help Me is a service where you can submit up-to-date information about those who may be at risk of going missing. This can help our officers save valuable time if this happens, giving us the best chance to find them.

Jack's β•

After two years volunteering for Spring into Action, I finally had the opportunity to volunteer in person at one of our discos! 🎈 I had the chance to see up close and personal the work we do at the Paparazzi in Burnley. It was great to see people having a great time and enjoying the night.

Of course, that didn't stop me from volunteering at our Members Only Event either! We visited the Science & Industry Museum - and they had an entire building dedicated to old trains. Exciting stuff. 😁

Back at the offices, we've been redecorating. A brand new mural, representing the core values (and aesthetics) of Spring into Action to welcome in visitors. Blackburn is really starting to feel like home. 🏠

But personally, I'd like to thank everyone, from the staff, the members and everyone who attends our events. I've been put forward as a finalist for the Selnet Volunteer of the Year award! It's a big honour, and I wouldn't be in this position without everyone involved. Thank you! ☝

This is Jack, Selnet Award Hopeful, signing off for the April Round-Up πŸ‘‹
