Veterans
As remembrance day passes, I would ask people to be mindful of our veterans community throughout the year.
In a census nearly 1000 Gravesham veterans reported that they were in poor health.
For three years, I have tried to ascertain if the healthcare providers of Gravesham are signed up to the veterans friendly healthcare scheme.
This scheme has been running since 2018 throughout the country, during the past three years I have written to the veterans minister,NHS director Armed Forces community and Kent and Medway NHS.
Had meetings with our MP Dr Lauren Sullivan, the councils armed forces champions and my local GPs patient participation group chairman to generate interest, with the aim of getting healthcare services on board with this scheme alas with no measurable outcomes.
To help get this message across I have e-mailed our local news paper (Gravesend & Dartford Messenger)
asking them respectfully to publicise and support this cause,
to date I’ve had no response from them.
My message to my fellow veterans it’s never too late to inform their GPs surgery and any healthcare service they are using that they are a veteran, sharing this information may be relevant to your healthcare now or in the future.
I will not disguise the fact that to see the healthcare providers have a real connection with the veterans community is my aim, if anyone could help or advise how to facilitate this, it would be very appreciated.
