Gravesend Air Cadets - 402 Sqn

Gravesend Air Cadets - 402 Sqn 402 (Gravesend) Squadron - Royal Air Force Air Cadets The Air Cadets offer a vast range of activities for the cadets to take part in.

They are put in place to teach the cadets highly valued and useful personal skills. Here follows a list of some of the more common activities our cadets will take part in during their time with us. Flying: Get the chance to take control of a Grob Tutor under the supervision of a fully qualified RAF Pilot to learn the basic skills of flying as well as how to perform aerobatics over the beautiful co

untryside of Britain. Gliding: Enjoy the peaceful silence of gliding as you soar through the air, initially under close supervision but eventually working up to the point where you can fly solo. Fieldcraft: Learn how to live in the field as part of a team as well as engaging a target with the minimum amount of noise before escaping unnoticed. Shooting: Learn the correct techniques to engage a target on a shooting range to gain the perfect score. You will gain the chance fire a large range of weaponry in use within the Tri Services as well as specific target shooting rifles. DofE: You will be given the chance to complete the demanding DofE award scheme up to the Gold Award. You will receive training to be able to complete the challenging expeditions as well as opportunities to complete the other sections required within the scheme to gain your award. Annual Camps: Cadets have the opportunity to visit an RAF station for a week and experience what life is like for a member of the Royal Air Force. Overseas Camps: Visit both US and British Military bases in Europe as well as taking part in prestigious events abroad such as the Nijmegen Marches in Holland. Ceremonial Duties: In Kent the Air Cadets are the only presence of the RAF. As a result you will have the opportunity to take part in large parades to remember both those who served in the past and to attend Mayoral events. This is just a tiny range of what cadets have done in their time as members of the Royal Air Force.

✨ Farewell & Congratulations FS Norman! ✨

We’re saying a proud farewell to Flight Sergeant Norman as he leaves the squadron to begin his Army Officer Training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Starting as a cadet in 2014, he rose through the cadet ranks and had then became an outstanding member of staff and SNCO.

His dedication to the Squadron, Sector, Kent Wing and Junior Leaders has been exceptional over the years.

In recognition of his outstanding service, Wing Commander Turner has awarded him The OC Kent Wing’s Commendation for Meritorious Service. Very well deserved. 🏆

Thank you for everything, FS Norman. We wish you the best of luck and look forward to see you again soon. Like FS Norman has already said, he’s not leaving forever. He’ll be back… we can’t get rid of him that easily! 👏

Remembrance Sunday 2025
This weekend, we were extremely proud of every single member of 402 (Gravesend) Squadron who took part in our local community Remembrance Parades — representing the Squadron with pride, professionalism, and respect throughout every service.

From Gravesend to Meopham, and the service held at the former RAF Gravesend site (now Cascades Leisure Centre), our cadets stood shoulder to shoulder with veterans, serving personnel, and the local community to honour those who gave their tomorrow for our today.

We’ve received incredible feedback from members of the public, parade organisers, and local organisations who were deeply impressed by the cadets’ turnout, discipline, and maturity. Many commented on how they conducted themselves throughout the day — a true reflection of the values of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

Our cadets should be immensely proud of how they represented both themselves and 402 Squadron this weekend.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
“When you go home, tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”

Lest We Forget.

A fantastic week for FS Skinner, Cpl Blackwell, Cdt Blackwell, Cdt Thilthorpe and Plt Officer Edwards at RAF Leeming LaSER Super Camp!

Our cadets had the chance to meet others from across the region and Kent Wing while taking part in an action-packed programme – from gardening, caring for chickens, station visits, adventure training, flying, STEM, drill, museum trips, career talks and even a big end-of-week party 🕺.

We’re incredibly proud of all four cadets 👏 Not only did they represent us brilliantly, but three of them came away with awards!
🏆 Cdt Thilthorpe – Best Cadet
🏆 Cpl Blackwell – Best JNCO
🏆 FS Skinner – Best SNCO

What a week to remember! ✈️💪
