Whether at sea or on land, the Sea Cadets offers young people across the UK amazing opportunities for personal development - by learning new skills and working in teams - we offer an environment where young people find new confidence and inspiration. Established in 1856 the Sea Cadets was created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers

provided training while local businessmen funded the unit building. Today, 14,000 young people based in 400 units in towns, cities and ports across the UK are challenging themselves and developing new skills, like sailing, boating and rock climbing - supported by 9,000 volunteers.

Gravesend and Dartford band beginners had a session this morning to concentrate on learning Hearts of Oak. The bell lyre players have almost memorised it and the bugle players were trying to learn the intro part and were actually getting some notes out. The cymbal player was getting some good crashes in. The drummers were sounding good too. Practice, practice , practice. We’re working on it😊 😊

The cadet rank were completing their meteorology modules by making their own weather vane to be taken home and placed in their gardens. Last week they tried out all the instruments used to measure different aspects of the weather. Unfortunately there wasn’t a breath of wind but tonight was different so they went outside too to judge the speed of the wind from the windsock and the check it against the reading from our automatic weather station. They matched!!

One of them has been to the science museum today and has seen the Eileen Gas Light fresnel lens that is housed there. It is very big.

This evening the cadets have played Sea Cadet Monopoly - a specially designed playing board relevant to our Unit and District. Cadets had to answer a question, miss stand easy (miss a go) or go to defaulters if they landed on a community chest or chance!

They then played bingo for the chance to win a bag of maltesers!! Even the adult volunteers joined in!
