Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team - PMBDT

PMBDT Was started in 1986 and we are still performing displays ever since around Portsmouth and the South of England.

PMBDT Was started in 1986 and our aim from the very beginning was to be a little different from your average club. There would be no regattas, no trophies, just displays for the public to enjoy. Thirty six years on and we are still putting on shows, and despite the hard work that goes on before and after each event, the support we receive from the public keeps us going. Our Affiliation in 2017 with the National Museum of the Royal Navy has given us a wonderful permanent club house at Explosion Museum Gosport where we have open days displaying our models for the public and in support of the museum.

MTB is now alive following its recent ‘flying’ incident! New inner propshaft and the old tube straightened. Re-greased and new props fitted. Sounds sweet again, just need to do a better job of driving it next time!

A bit of progress on a breezy day. Workshop cleared a bit more, Brave Borderer now has her running numbers and a bit more paint on, landing craft door repairs started, and new props fitted to the MTB. Plus the start of a secret project…

MTB232 stripped down and waiting for propshaft repair and replacement. This followed its little accident at Swiss Cottage where it thought it was an Aeroplane and leapt off rocks at full power!
Tube and P bracket knocked out of position by about 5mm and the shaft is bent at about 2in along and at the outer thread. Anyway, could have been much worse..

Damon’s 1/32 Brave Borderer now resplendent in its 1960s Light Admiralty Grey scheme. Just that bit less Sky Blue than previously.
Also we have some pics of the colour chip chart I have been using to match modern and post war RN colours. Finally giving up and getting the correct colours mixed. As you can see, almost a good match to the twin and single 4.5in turrets at Explosion Museum! Just goes to show, don’t stress the little things..
