We're spotlighting the people that helped bring Compigne Court, our new housing development in Grove Road, Gosport, to fruition. Here's what Murat Canbek, our Property Services Manager, shared with us.
"When I joined the Trust, the land had already been acquired and planning permission was in place for the development of 39 purpose-built flats.
At that time, Compigne Court had not yet been named and the site was known as Grove Road. My early involvement included maintaining the grounds and preventing overgrowth. Once the construction start date was confirmed, one of my responsibilities was to keep the vegetation low to discourage ground-nesting birds from nesting on site, which could have delayed the start of the project. In the days leading up to the works commencing, I visited the site regularly to inspect the grounds and ensure there was no nesting activity.
Once the construction started, it was a pleasure to watch the development progress day by day. From the groundbreaking ceremony through to completion, I found the process very rewarding. I looked forward to attending the monthly site meetings with the construction company and seeing the progress being made.
Although there were challenging moments and some robust discussions with the construction team when obstacles arose, this has been one of the most enjoyable projects I have been involved in.
Working alongside a highly skilled team of architects, construction professionals, structural engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors and trades contractors gave me valuable knowledge and experience, and I feel privileged to have been part of it.
Once the building was completed, I carried out a thorough snagging process, checking every area to help ensure the building was in the best possible condition for residents to move into.
During the mobilisation of the building and as residents moved into their new homes, I worked tirelessly to support the team and help achieve the best possible outcomes for all stakeholders.
I feel privileged to have been part of the journey that has led to Compigne Court as it stands today."
