We've seen high numbers of hedgehogs at Withymead this summer, including this handsome hoglet! Our shady, damp location offers them some respite from the hot weather🌞
Generally, our prickly pals have been having a tough time with the high temperatures. You can help by:
🫗 putting a shallow bowl of water in your garden and topping it up regularly
🌳keeping parts of your garden shady and overgrown to provide shelter - and always check for animals before you trim!
🪱 remembering that hedgehogs eat slugs and insects, so avoid pesticides and slug pellets in your garden as it turns their natural food toxic
🦔 creating a hedgehog highway in fences to help them move freely between gardens and find their own refuges
