🍂 Has anyone told the fastigiate Oak that it’s autumn? 🍂

It seems nature’s seasonal memo may have gone astray at Winkworth Arboretum! While the surrounding trees are already dressed in their autumn finery, our fastigiate oak is still pondering whether it’s quite ready to let go of summer. 🌳

Thankfully, the rest of the arboretum is making up for it, as little pops of colour join together in a glorious seasonal chorus. Crimsons, golden hues, bright yellows and rich russets are singing out in a colourful tribute to autumn, transforming the landscape into a feast for the eyes.

So, whether you’re waiting for the oak to get the message or simply fancy a stroll amongst the changing colours, there’s plenty of autumn magic to discover at Winkworth Arboretum.

Come and see the season in all its colourful glory. 🍂

There's strange goings-on in the Arboretum.

Could it be the Stranger Folk? Sneaky goblins, cunning boggarts and other mythical creatures loose in Winkworth Woodlands?

Can you help the Old Crone return them to their spirit world and seal the rift?

Volunteers needed for Winkworth Photoshoot - Sunday 15 November

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Family groups, 🐕‍🦺dog walkers, 🧑‍🤝‍🧑couples,🚶‍♂️individuals...one of our photographers is heading here on in November and we’re looking for people to be photographed exploring the arboretum, enjoying our Christmas trail and visiting our new visitor centre.

The National Trust is ‘for everyone, for ever’ and we’re on a mission to ensure everybody feels welcome at our places. One of the ways we’re doing this is by working to make our image library inclusive and representative of everyone in our local community. We want our images to show real people having fun and making memories.

We'll be shooting all day but would only require just an hour of your time. If you’re interested or have any questions, please email [email protected] with your availability, and we'll send you some further info. Thank you.

This autumn, see Winkworth through a different lens; join award-winning photographer Eddie Hyde ( hyde photography) at Winkworth Arboretum for our Fundamentals of Photography Workshop — a one-day experience designed to help you get more from your camera and discover what makes a great photograph.

With Winkworth’s beautiful landscapes and seasonal colours as your classroom, you’ll learn new techniques, develop your photographic eye and find inspiration in the natural world around you.

🎄🧙‍ Coming soon ! The Great Christmas Gnome Adventure at Winkworth Arboretum

This Christmas, meet Winkworth’s winter folk on a festive woodland adventure! Inspired by Scandinavian folklore and winter traditions, our giant woodland characters are ready to bring a little gnome-magic to your winter walks.

Pick up a trail booklet from the visitor welcome desk and set off to find Scottie, Ginger, Stella, Ralph and their colourful-hatted friends. Don't forget to emboss your booklet when you've found each gnome.

Once you’ve completed the trail, pop into the café for a warming treat and browse the shop for a little festive inspiration. The perfect winter day out for the whole family!

🍄 Fungi foray - November 5 & 22

Look a little closer this autumn…

Amongst the golden leaves and fallen fruits at Winkworth Arboretum, a whole world of fungi is waiting to be discovered.

From tiny fairy-tale toadstools to giant puffballs and striking bracket fungi, there’s plenty to spot – and photograph. 📸🍂

Join us for a Fungi Foray around the arboretum with fungi expert, Sara Shepley and discover some of autumn’s most fascinating woodland treasures.

Please remember: some fungi are extremely poisonous, so never pick or touch fungi
