The Green Hub

The Green Hub A small Surrey charity supporting young people struggling with anxiety and mental health issues.

Our Green Teens programme gives teens time outdoors in nature, as well as offering support to their parents via Parent Hub. In partnership with parents, GPs, schools and youth agencies, we enable teens struggling with social anxiety, stress and overwhelm to enjoy nature, while gardening alongside and interacting with our skilled volunteers and other teenagers. Our goal is to achieve positive, meas

urable outcomes for teens’ mental wellbeing, self-love, active lifestyles, social interaction and inclusion, as well as the development and application of a range of useful life skills. Additionally, the Green Hub Project for Teens also runs wellbeing-focused talks and workshops to empower teens and to support their parents, thereby enabling us to reach a wider audience.

Huge thanks to the team at Bushy Business for helping us get our dodgy brickwork and crumbling edges in good shape this week. Despite the rain, the guys just got stuck in and did some splendid work. 🙌 to Eric and Liam and, of course, Chris the Boss!

It will make a big difference to the garden for when the judges arrive next week!

With just a week until the ‘In Bloom’ judges arrive, and with our 5th Birthday Party just a couple of days later, it’s been all systems go at the Green Hub Wellbeing Garden at Witley Station.

The Green Hub only moved into Witley Station House as our HQ last June, and we started tackling the jungle of a garden in August. We could never have imagined what we would discover beneath all those brambles and weeds!

With so much help from our army of volunteers, from local businesses and local residents, not to mention Surrey County Council, South Western Railway, Community Rail Network & Witley Parish Council, who have all supported us with funding.

Today was one of the final planting days - the judges from ‘South & South East in Bloom’ are arriving next Friday to judge us as part of the ‘Celebration Stations’ category, so we want the garden to look its best.

And you can be the judge of what we have achieved too. We’d love to hear what you think.

The final ‘cherry on the cake’ will arrive during next week, ready for when when we finally unveil our wonderful teen artwork at our 5th Birthday Party on Sunday 14th. We really hope you’ll be able to join us.

Quite simply, Green Hub wouldn’t be Green Hub without you.

Thank you for everything you do. We are so grateful for every single one of you 💚

What a day at the Godalming Town Show!

The sun shone, the crowds came, and we had the most wonderful time connecting with so many of you over plants, green spaces and all things Greenhub.

A far cry from last year’s monsoon dismantlement — we’ll take it! ☔😄

There’s something really special about showing up in your community, having those face-to-face conversations and seeing how many people genuinely care about mental health, green spaces and the immersing in nature. Every plant that found a new home today is a little piece of that shared passion.

Thank you Godalming for having us — we’ll see you again soon!

We're looking for help with weeding and watering at Green Hub's Wellbeing garden at Witley Station.

We've had such a fun time recreating the Station Master's garden at Witley Station - it's now the Green Hub Wellbeing garden at Witley Station, and we hope the local community enjoy it when they visit, or set off on their daily commute.

And compared to how it was before!

We have entered the South east in Bloom, 'Celebration Stations' section and they'll be round judging over the summer - and we still have a lot to do by then.

What we need most of all are people who will - individually or collectively - pop to the garden a few days every week for watering and weeding. The basic summer maintenance that will keep it on top form.

If you are relatively local to the station, love gardening and have some time each week you could commit to helping us for an hour or so, please do let us know.

Either send us a message, here or email [email protected]

Big thanks in advance ...

Josie, our general manager, and Stacey, our garden manager, were invited to speak about Green Hub and the work we do at the Elstead Annual Parish Assembly, alongside other incredibly worthwhile local charities, including Huckleberries, whose aim through nature based learning is to help the wellbeing of younger children. You could say that our two charities are a complement and continuation of each other.

For such a small area, the double edged success of our charities highlights the lack of provision for mental health support for the younger generation and the daily struggle for so many local families.

Thank you to Cllr Jane Jacobs (pictured next to Josie), chair of Elstead PC and Cllr Gemma Long (pictured next to Stacy), Elstead and Peper Harrow Borough Council, for inviting us. Also pictured are Bev Cook, CEO of Huckleberries, with Mel, a volunteer (in the centre), and Cllr Gemma Long.

Thanks also to all the local people who attended and asked questions, including newly elected Phoebe Sullivan, Councillor for West Surrey Unitary Authority representing Waverley Western Villages.

Around this time two years ago, we were simply looking for somewhere to store our ever-growing collection of bits and pieces…

Fast forward to last year, when we celebrated the Grand Opening of our wonderful HQ at Station House, Witley Station! 🏠🚂💼

Having Witley as our home for the next five years has completely transformed our ability to support local young people.

Inside, the building was repainted and reorganised to meet our needs - but it’s the outside space that has seen the most incredible transformation. What was once an overgrown patch of brambles has, with the help of our amazing volunteers and supporters, become a thriving wellbeing garden for volunteers, visitors and rail commuters alike.

This week, we were delighted to welcome Lawrence Bowman (far left), Managing Director of South Western Railway, alongside Paula Aldridge, Community Rail Manager, and Steve Nibloe, Station Manager at Witley.

They came to see the transformation for themselves and to learn more about the positive impact having our HQ at Witley has had on Green Hub and the young people we support.
