Since the closure of the tyre works, the park has continued to provide basic sports facilities for the community. But local residents always knew that these grounds, part of Inchinnan’s story since the late 1920s, deserved a secure and sustainable future.
Despite their history and potential, the site, home to multiple grass pitches, and not without its challenges needed real commitment, determination, and vision to transform it into something more.
That journey began when Councillor Nicolson connected St Mirren Youth Football Club, a Renfrewshire-wide club searching for a place to call home.
What followed has been a true community effort.
From day one, the Club invested not just funding, but countless hours of hard work to improve the pitches and support young people locally. Alongside Inchinnan Development Trust, a five-year journey of planning, design, fundraising, and collaboration took shape.
Together, partnerships were built, funding was secured, and a shared vision emerged - creating a space for both sport and the wider community.
Today, that vision is becoming reality.
Construction is now underway on a Scottish FA-standard pitch, featuring an environmentally friendly corn infill system - replacing traditional rubber materials. A more sustainable approach, without compromising performance.
This facility will become home to St Mirren Youth FC, while also supporting wider community use, including Bishopton Rugby Youth.
This is more than just a pitch.
It’s the result of resilience, partnership, and community spirit. A reminder that when people come together with purpose, incredible things can happen.
It didn’t happen overnight. It happened because people stepped up, worked together, and made it happen.
