Knights of St Columba

Knights of St Columba The Knights of St Columba is an Order of Catholic laymen dedicated to serving the Church and supporting fellow brothers and sisters.

Founded in 1919 in Glasgow, the Knights of St Columba is a Catholic laymen’s organisation dedicated to faith, charity, and fraternity, supporting the Church, families, and communities through service, fundraising, and youth development. The organisation is non-political and exists to uphold the mission of the Catholic Church, while also promoting the spiritual and material wellbeing of its members

and their families. Guided by the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church, the Order works for the moral and social welfare of society. A particular focus is placed on helping young people develop in the likeness of Christ. The Order strives to achieve its aims through the fundamental virtues of:
- Charity
- Unity
- Fraternity

These are reflected in its core principles:
Faith – Family – Fraternity

Members actively contribute to raising tens of thousands of pounds for pro-life charities, the hospice movement, and national action projects. Activities include fundraising, social events, stewarding, youth competitions, and much more. Through working together for the common good, members build strong bonds, grow in faith, and form lasting friendships. The organisation is structured through local councils, provinces, and regions across the UK, all united in their mission: To serve God by serving others.

A huge congratulations to Knights of St. Columba Council 614 – Buckley on their fantastic fundraising efforts towards the installation of a community defibrillator in memory of their much-loved Past Grand Knight, David Lawson. David served Council 614 and the wider Order with great dedication over many years, making this a fitting tribute to his legacy.

This project is a wonderful example of living our faith through action—supporting the local community and helping to save lives.

Let’s play a game! Share this post as far and wide as possible and let’s see if we can get a like from someone called Alexis!

St. Alexis (Alexius) – Man of God

Today, July 17, we celebrate the feast day of Saint Alexis (also known as Saint Alexius), the “Man of God”.

Born into wealth and privilege, Saint Alexis chose a life of humility, poverty, and service to those in need. He gave up worldly comforts to follow Christ wholeheartedly, reminding us that true riches are found in faith, compassion, and selfless love.

May Saint Alexis inspire us to serve others with humility, trust in God’s providence, and seek holiness in our daily lives.

Saint Alexis, Man of God, pray for us. 🙏
