We would like to say a big Thank you to the group of volunteers from Arun District Council who came and gave the indoor riding school some care and attention.

They washed walls, raked the sand, picked up stones, weeded etc. Thanks to their time, energy, and teamwork, the riding school is now looking refreshed and ready to be enjoyed by everyone who uses it.

We are incredibly grateful for their support and for taking the time to help keep Ferring Country Centre such a special place. Community support like this truly means the world to us, thank you all!

We’re incredibly proud to have been part of the transformation of the Angmering Library Sensory Garden — a project that turned an underused outdoor space into a welcoming, inclusive community garden.

Thanks to a generous donation made in memory of Roy Huso, former County Librarian for West Sussex, the vision for the garden became possible. From the very start, Ferring Country Centre’s Day Service was excited to be involved. When Sarah Brand invited our woodwork pod to design and create items for the garden, ideas quickly flowed. With guidance from support worker James Bacon, the group designed and built planters, a bug hotel, a giant butterfly planter and a stick man — all created with huge care and pride in the wood workshop at Ferring country Centre.

The project brought together many brilliant partners. Brendan Devitt-Spooner crafted bespoke wooden benches, volunteers from Angmering in Bloom planted and nurtured the garden, and local resident Sue Bagg added beautiful hand-painted stones that bring extra character to the space.

Being invited as guests of honour to the official opening was a very proud moment for our Day Service. The partnership will continue, with Ferring supporting the ongoing care and maintenance of the items we created — a lasting example of what can be achieved through collaboration, creativity and community spirit!

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re incredibly proud to celebrate one of our inspiring young volunteers, Poppy.

When Poppy first applied to volunteer with us at Ferring Country Centre, she didn’t yet have the experience needed for the riding school. Undeterred, she took the initiative to attend our BHS training sessions, working hard to build her skills and confidence.

Since then, Poppy has developed into a reliable and capable member of our riding school young volunteers team, always willing to learn and lend a hand. Alongside this, she has successfully completed both her Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards with us—an achievement she should be very proud of.

Poppy’s determination and commitment have really stood out, and it’s been fantastic to see her grow in confidence and ability. We’re thrilled to have her as part of our team!🐴
