Today marks the start of Refugee Week, an arts festival celebrating the creativity and resilience of refugees. This year's theme is courage, acknowledging the immense courage shown by refugees to face unknown journeys, learn new languages, navigate unfamiliar systems and step into an uncertain world.
At West Sussex Mind, we recognise that, once people have fled to safety, they often face trauma and challenges with their mental health - and that it can be difficult for them to find the support they need 💜
We can all show courage ourselves and help refugees in our communities through simple acts of kindness that help refugees feel more welcome and reduce their sense of isolation - because healing doesn't happen in isolation.
Refugee Week commissioned artwork from Quentin Blake for this year's theme, encouraging simple acts such as:
🗣️ Having a courageous conversation with someone
🎞️ Watching a film together
🥣 Sharing food and stories
🚶🏾♂️Walking and talking together
📕Reading a book to educate yourself
🎨 Getting drawing and painting
🐝 Letting nature inspire you
🏃🏾♀️ Moving together for mental health and connection.
What will you do this week?
