Huge thanks to our member Martyn Hudson for a really insightful presentation at today’s business network meeting.

Martyn walked us through how to get a limited company “sale ready”.
He also broke down key elements of the Companies Act 2006 in a very practical way, showing how good compliance is not just a legal requirement but a real asset when it comes to valuation and buyer confidence.

Lots of actionable takeaways for owners who may be thinking about an exit in the next few years.

At Ferndown Business Network, we're proud to be more than just a networking group - we're a team.

When one of our members recently returned from holiday and was rushed to hospital with a serious leg infection, our members didn't hesitate. Visits were made, messages of support filled our group chat, and a get well card was signed by all.

We're delighted to share that he is now home and recovering well. 💪

This is what makes Ferndown Business Network special , we show up for each other, in business and in life.

A huge thank you to Caroline from Evolv Health Hub for delivering such an insightful presentation at our weekly meeting today.

Caroline gave a brilliant explanation of how everyday stress can lead to aches and pains in our bodies, and shared some really practical tips on how taking regular breaks throughout the day can help relieve tension and improve overall wellbeing.

A great reminder for all of us to pause, reset, and look after ourselves, even during the busiest days.

Thank you again, Caroline, for such an engaging and valuable session!

We’re proud to celebrate one of our fantastic network members, Dorothy Brown from Even Keel Solutions, who recently took part in the Bournemouth Hospital Twilight Walk in support of breast cancer care 💗

This inspiring event brings the community together to raise vital funds and awareness for an incredibly important cause. A special mention also goes to Parley Place Care Home - Barchester Healthcare for sponsoring the event, it’s wonderful to see another of our members, Michelle, connected to such meaningful support.

It’s moments like these that truly highlight the power of community, compassion, and collaboration within our network. Well done, Dorothy, we’re all behind you!

Member Monday - A chance for us to highlight our members

Paul (PTBPhotography) has been a professional photographer since becoming a partner in The Old Bakery Photography Studio in 2017, although his passion for creating images goes back a long way before that. Paul can help you with everything from corporate headshots to product photography, family photoshoots to model portfolios and event photography.

Although the studio is now closed, Paul has a fully mobile set-up including lights and backdrops, all of which can be set up and ready to shoot in around 10 minutes.

Today at our weekly meeting, we enjoyed a brilliant presentation from member Lisa Hover of Ashley Admin Solutions. She shared how her business helps busy owners stay organised, responsive and in control through flexible support across general admin, mortgage admin, financial admin, and customer service and sales support.

Lisa also gave some really useful social media advice, reminding us that social media works best when it is kept simple, consistent and focused on connection rather than perfection. Her message was clear: use it as a tool, not a burden and aim to be visible, helpful and human online.

A big thank you to Lisa for such a practical and insightful session. It was a great reminder that good admin support and a simple, steady approach to social media can both make a real difference to growing a business.

Member Monday

This weeks member is Michelle.

Michelle represents Parley Place Care Home which provides residential and residential dementia care.
Parley Place has been open for 3 and a half years, part of Barchester Healthcare who have over 260 homes and have been providing exceptional care for over 30 years.
Parley Place has a capacity of 68 residents and is designed to support individuals to retain independence as much as possible in a supported way.
The team take care of all care needs, all laundry, cleaning and our activity team have a varied schedule aimed at providing meaningful activities to suit everyone's needs.Michelle's role in the home is to show prospective clients and families around the home and answer all questions and concerns relating to day to day living with in the home.
Michelle is also in charge of the Marketing, PR and Community Engagement which is the part of the role she is most well known for.
From running fayre's and events in the home both fun and educational to supporting charity events both in and out of the home.
Having worked in the industry for nearly 10 years Michelle has great knowledge of different aspects of care and is always happy to support and assist with any questions you may have about Parley Place or the care system in general.

Ferndown Business Network has a charity member and our very own Chairperson is the representative of that charity, We will share more about our chair, Maria Tidy another time, but this post is about the wonderful charity Plants and Minds.

Plants and Minds is a charity focused on restoring wellbeing for people living with life-impacting mental health conditions.
We create calm, supportive spaces where people can:
• take part in meaningful, everyday activities
• build confidence and social connection
• reduce isolation and loneliness
• feel part of a welcoming community

At the heart of our work are two plant nurseries, Cherry Tree Nursery in Northbourne and Chestnut Nursery in Poole, offering therapeutic horticulture as a pathway to recovery. Here, people get involved in all aspects of growing, nurturing, and selling plants — always at a pace that suits them, with no pressure.

Every contribution matters. Every role has value. And every person is supported to feel included and purposeful.

MEMBER MONDAY - A chance for us to highlight our members

We’re Gerard Maguire and Kristin Maguire, the husband and wife duo behind Individuality Swimming & Fitness.

Kristin founded the business over 20 years ago, growing it into one of the South’s leading swim schools, helping thousands of children and adults build confidence and life-saving skills in the water. Gerard later joined full-time, bringing his business background and shared passion for helping people thrive through swimming.

We’re proud to have been recognised through national industry awards, including winning Swim School of the Year and being finalists in the STA Aquatic Excellence Awards, reflecting both our swim school and training standards.

Alongside our swim school, we also deliver a wide range of professional training, including First Aid courses, bespoke training tailored to businesses and organisations, rescue qualifications such as Pool Lifeguard and Emergency Pool Responder, as well as Pool Plant Operator courses.

All of our courses can be delivered at our training centre or on-site and are tailored to both organisational requirements and individual learner needs.
