This week we’ve been busy revamping the Shetlands’ stables, and Alfie was in charge of choosing the colour. 🎨

Naturally, he bypassed anything boring and went straight for HOT PINK!

We think they look amazing. You’ve smashed it, Alfie!

Last week we said goodbye to our beautiful Gwen.

Born at High Mead 13 years ago, Gwen was one of our very first animals.

Every single day of those 13 years, she welcomed people exactly as they were. No judgement. No expectations. No need to explain yourself.

She sat with people on good days and bad ones. She gave comfort without asking questions, company without pressure, and made people feel safe just by being there.

To Gwen, everyone was worth her time.

I don’t think we could ever begin to understand just how much of a positive impact she has had on people over those 13 years. And of course, Gwen would never have understood it either. She was simply being Gwen.

We are so incredibly proud of her, of the life she lived, and of everything she gave to the farm and the people who came through our gates.

The world would be a kinder place if we all lived a little more like she did.

Thank you, Gwen, for 13 years of kindness, comfort and unconditional acceptance.

WOODCHIP WANTED! 🌳

Winter is coming, and we’re on the lookout for clean, animal-safe woodchip to help keep our chicken and duck pens dry through the wetter months.

Our horticulture team can also make good use of it around the farm.

We do need to be quite selective about what we can accept, so ideally we’re looking for:

• Clean woodchip from untreated trees
• Very little leafy or green material, as this rots down and moulds much more quickly
• No treated, painted or preserved timber
• No known toxic species such as yew, laburnum, cherry laurel or rhododendron

If you’re a local tree surgeon and think you might have something suitable, drop us a text or give us a ring on 07517 328094 and let us know what you’ve got before bringing it over.

Any suitable woodchip would be hugely appreciated!
