Statement to local community
On behalf of Falkland Rural Enterprises Ltd, we sincerely apologise to all those impacted by our recent serious failure at Home Farm and the sad consequences for our cattle, staff and community.
The welfare of animals and people is at the heart of Falkland Estate’s purpose. So this loss is deeply felt by all of us.
As we close out this week, we acknowledge that many people in our community have been deeply affected by what has happened. This tragedy has been distressing for all of us who care about our animals and our people. We appreciate the way that staff, from organisations across the estate, have shown such dedication through an incredibly difficult time, and how much those living and working close by have been touched by this.
We are grateful to all who have reached out with support and kindness. We also hope that everyone affected will seek support if needed (from friends, neighbours or helplines). What is touching us most is the way that this crisis is bringing out the best of our community, as people rally round to tend the wellbeing at the heart of this place.
Finally, we ask that the privacy and wellbeing of our staff, their families and all those connected to this situation be respected, as we grieve and begin the path to recovery.
