🏃‍♂️ Every step tells a story

This Sunday, Dan is taking on the TCS London Marathon to raise funds for Jasmine Lodge, supported through Open Up’s Little Something Fund 💙

After the birth of their youngest child, his wife experienced severe postnatal depression. With the support of the perinatal mental health team, she was admitted to Jasmine Lodge, where specialist care helped keep her safe and begin recovery.

The support they received didn’t just help one person. It helped hold a whole family together. In a safe and compassionate environment, she was able to heal while continuing to bond with her baby and stay connected as a family unit 🤝

Today, Dan is running to give something back. His goal is to help ensure other families can access the same life changing care through the Little Something Fund, supporting vital perinatal mental health services and keeping families together 🌱

Here are some special moments from a Good Friday visit to Beech Ward in Torbay, an inpatient mental health ward supporting older adults experiencing severe mental health conditions including depression, anxiety and psychosis 💙

Patrick the Pony 🐴, a regular visitor supported by Open Up, brought so much joy to patients and staff. One patient who hasn’t been able to leave their bed or room for several weeks and loves animals was able to gently stroke Patrick’s nose. A small moment that meant so much.

Another patient who previously felt very anxious around Patrick showed an incredible transformation. This time there was smiling 😊, chatting and confident interaction. A powerful reminder of the progress being made.

Patrick has even earned a place on the team board and is becoming a much loved part of life on the ward.

What an incredible day for New Leaf NHS 🌱☀️

The new multispan was officially opened by Toby Buckland, and what a moment it was. With the sun shining and so many brilliant people coming together, it truly felt like a celebration of everything New Leaf stands for.

Delivered as part of Devon Partnership NHS Trust’s Vocational Service, this fantastic new growing space, funded by Open Up, will create even more opportunities for people to build confidence, develop skills and take positive steps towards employment. It is spaces like this that help recovery and wellbeing flourish in a real and lasting way.

It was inspiring to see the amazing New Leaf team alongside participants and supporters, all contributing to such a special service that changes lives every day.

We are so proud to be part of this journey and to support a project that will continue to make a difference across Devon 💙

Thread Brothers brings men together to learn practical skills, build confidence and support mental wellbeing through creativity and connection.

We’re launching Thread Brothers — a free practical sewing and mending group for men, led by none other than Tony Rea, Great British Sewing Bee finalist!

Learn to sew, repair clothes, and upcycle fabric into new items in a relaxed, hands‑on group. All abilities welcome — from total beginners to seasoned stitchers. Machines and materials will all be provided.

💙 Meet Chantelle, running The Great West Run Exeter for Open Up

Open Up is a charity close to Chantelle’s heart following her own experiences with mental health. When she signed up for the Great West Run, she knew she wanted to use the opportunity to give back and support others.

Her training is going well as she builds her endurance and confidence, even heading to Exeter to get a feel for the route ahead of race day. She is working towards running the full half marathon distance very soon, showing real commitment and determination.
This run is not just for Chantelle. It is for the friends she knows who have struggled with their mental health and in memory of those lost too soon.
