✨ And just like that, our final summer First Thursdays is nearly here!

Join us on Gandy Street next Thursday 3 September from 5-8pm for an evening packed with pop-up performances, basket-weaving demonstrations, flamenco dancing, live music and plenty more from your favourite Gandy Street businesses.

🍸 The Cocktail Collective is back too, with £8 signature cocktails at Coolings, Crocketts, Pixy’s, The Cocktail Club and The Mermaid.

🎭 Elsewhere, take on the Shell Yeah! Prawn Farm Challenge Game Show Experience at Exeter Library, browse the Circular Social mini mindful market at Boston Tea Party, follow the Misplaced Items Treasure Trail and visit Wand Vintage for human-generated answers from its Little Language Model.

Exeter’s city centre hanging baskets are bursting with colour. 🌸

So how have they stayed hydrated during this summer’s intense heat? Our dedicated supplier, Boyces, waters the baskets throughout the season, mainly using harvested rainwater collected at its nursery just a few miles from the city centre. The nutrient-rich water also helps the plants thrive. 🌿

We choose drought-tolerant plants for our beds across the city, while the Gandy Street baskets contain varieties suited to shadier conditions. The traditional wire baskets on the High Street have been reused for many years, but as summers become hotter, we are exploring reservoir baskets like those used elsewhere in the city to reduce watering.

What do you get when you cross an octopus with socks? 🐙🧦

No, this is not the opening line to a joke, but Socktopus - Queen Street’s newest shop – you guessed it, dedicated to socks.

Founded by self-confessed sock obsessives, Socktopus believes socks should never be boring. Expect designs that are loud, funny, nostalgic and wonderfully weird. It’s all about fun, inclusivity, community and giving back, with the Socks for Good range supporting charities with every pair sold. 💛

So whilst we’ve been in a heatwave recently (what do you mean you don’t where socks with your sandals?) Socktopus is the latest and greatest destination to dress up your feet.

Whatever the weather, RAMM (Royal Albert Memorial Museum) is the perfect place for family fun this summer.

Escape the sunshine or brighten up a rainy day with an adventure through the museum. 🏛️

📱 Book a free family Time Odyssey visit and explore RAMM’s galleries at your own pace using augmented reality tablets. Designed for children aged 7 to 11, the adventure takes 60 to 90 minutes and tablets are provided.
