https://www.positivelightprojects.com/workshopsThere's still time to join the next Eco Friendly Darkroom Workshop with Sophie Sherwood - this month we'll be exploring ways to use plants for developing your film 🌱

Eco Friendly Plant Developing: Sat 30th May, 10am - 4pm

Learn how to develop your own black and white film using plants! You will need to bring a pre shot 35mm black and white film (preferably Ilford 400 HP5+) . During the workshop Sophie will talk about the best plants to use for this process, and the limitations that come with it, as well as artists who are currently researching within this area of photography.

Or join us in June for Mud Photography - make your own developer using wood ash and coffee grounds to create unique and textured prints in the darkroom. No previous darkroom experience necessary! Sat 20th June, 10am - 4pm

Jewish Voices for Palestine by Exeter Palestine Solidarity Campaign
Tuesday 16 June, 7 PM - 9 PM at Positive Light Projects

In the years that Israel has occupied and oppressed Palestinian people, rarely have we heard the voices of Jewish people who do not support the Zionist endeavour. As the latest genocide in Gaza took hold a group of local Jewish people, some of whom had been speaking out against Israel for years, came together under the banner of the Devon Jews for Palestine Group. Along with Exeter Palestine Solidarity Campaign they have arranged this meeting in order for their experiences and voices to be heard. Do come along. Please note entrance is ONLY via free registration on Eventbrite - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/jewish-voices-for-palestine-tickets-1988860434097

Photo Walk - Shoot a Roll of Film (Beginner Friendly)
18th April 10.30am - 2pm

Curious about shooting film but not sure where to start? This practical, hands-on workshop is designed to give you a clear and confident introduction to 35mm photography.

We’ll walk through how exposure works on film, how to use your camera’s built-in meter, and why bright scenes and dark scenes can trick it. You’ll learn how film handles highlights and shadows differently from digital, what it means to work with a fixed ISO, and how black & white and colour negative film each respond to light.

Most importantly, you’ll shoot with intention. Through a guided exercise, you’ll complete a roll built around a single idea — learning to slow down, think before pressing the shutter, and make deliberate creative decisions.

No prior film experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to learn!

Darkroom Refresher Courses

If you have previous darkroom experience but it’s been a while, this refresher session is designed to help you rebuild confidence and get back up to speed.

The course focuses specifically on using the enlargers rather than developing film, so please bring your own negatives to work from. We’ll revisit the essential steps of producing a black-and-white print, including setting up the enlarger, making test strips, understanding exposure and contrast control, and working through the printing process from start to finish.

This session is ideal for those who have worked in a darkroom before but would benefit from guided support before joining our independent member access sessions. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a clear understanding of our equipment, workflow, and health and safety procedures — and the confidence to work independently in our darkroom.

Join us tomorrow evening -8th April, 6pm - 9pm or the 28th April, 6pm - 9pm to come and brush up on your skills!
