Exeter Swimming and LifeSaving Club is a not-for-profit community-based lifesaving club where we offer a range of Royal Lifesaving Society awards, including Rookie Lifeguard (the junior award scheme aimed at children aged 8-12 years) and the Survive and Save program (aimed at lifesavers aged 12 to Adult), then onto the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification to become a Lifeguard. The club focuses o
n allowing the older children to complete their Survive and Save certificate by allowing them to help teach the younger children their lifesaving skills for their Rookie Lifeguard Certificate, with the help and support from our knowledgeable and experienced training team by their side - A club run by kids for the kids. We also offer and support younger children from 4years and up by encouraging them to swim and to understanding the importance of water safety. Training
During our weekly training sessions, you'll learn how to deal with life-threatening first-aid emergencies such as choking, bleeding, and medical shock and how to help someone who's fallen unconscious or has stopped breathing, You'll also learn specialised water-rescue skills: learning how to keep yourself safe and how to assist swimmers in difficulty. Once you've perfected your own skills, we offer the opportunity to train as an instructor so that you can share your skills with others. The club offers a rolling program of training so new members can join any time without worrying about missing the start of a course, once lifesavers reach the required standard we enter them for assessment when they're ready. Club members also have the opportunity to enter lifesaving competitions at other clubs - this is a great way to practice real-life skills in simulated incidents. We also run open-water trips to the beach and local lakes so that you can put your skills into practice in a real environment. Everyone is welcome at Keynsham Lifesaving Club: whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced lifeguard! We have a whole range of ages and abilities, so you're bound to find a course that suits you. To take part in water-based activities you must be able to swim 200m, but if just want to learn a bit of first aid then this is also the club for you. Our normal training sessions at Topsham Swimming Pool and Exeter Outdoor University pool run from 8 am to 9:45 am each Saturday morning no matter what the weather, and if we’re not in the pool we're in the classroom or sports hall keeping up to date with our first aid or fitness. We will, of course, keep our prices under constant review to ensure that we continue to offer great value for money! We encourage all our members to pay by Direct Debit wherever possible - it is simpler for the club and means that you never need to worry about missing a payment. Please contact the chairman if you'd like to know more!
