We have new intakes planned for this month (September) - after which our retirement home will be completely full!

We usually see a natural decline in requests for our help during the autumn period so with this in mind, and with no further space available, we felt this was the ideal time to take a pause and focus our attention on other aspects of the rescue.🥰

During this time, we will be unable to consider any further requests for help.

MELODY UPDATE:
Melody came home Wednesday evening having had had two teeth removed and a number of crown amputations.😟

True to form, she was growling under anaesthesia apparently!

Sadly, she's been a shadow of herself over the bank holiday weekend. She is eating a little (we have been hand feeding her tiny pieces of sliced chicken today), but she still appears in discomfort and refuses point blank to take any pain relief...

The healing process does take a while so we just hope she picks up soon and in the meantime, we continue to support her as much as she will allow.

On a brighter note, we would like to thank everyone who sent her good wishes and help towards her dental fees.🥰

We received £340 in total.💗

MELODY - EMERGENCY DENTAL TODAY❗️
Our beautiful, but highly strung, British Shorthair, Melody, age 15, has been out of sorts for the past few days.😢

She has been suffering from cystitis but refused all medication and then stopped eating. (Melody is a notoriously difficult character - it took three people to restrain her for her annual check-up and booster this year.)

After both Mr & Mrs T suffered bites to the hand and fingers 🙀🙀 a transdermal appetite stimulant was successfully applied to the inside of one of her ears. This worked to some degree: she attempted to eat, but it then became apparent her mouth was causing her pain.

So Melody was booked in for sedation today for an examination, bloods and x-rays and as it turned out, a dental! This was quite surprising as she had already had one under our care back in May 2025.

Anyhow, we are pleased that it isn't anything more sinister and madame should be home shortly.🥰

We don't like to ask, but if anybody could help with Melody's bill, it would be so appreciated. We don't have a written estimate - as it was an emergency procedure - but going on previous dentals this year, we expect to pay at least £700.😟

AUGUST - A BUMPER MONTH FOR GIFTS!
Yet another thank you post to our amazing wish list donors!

🎁 First of all, we would like to thank Derek (Humperdink's former dad) for boosting our Lick-e-Lix 😋 supplies even further AND purchasing several boxes of the expensive Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Food.😃

🎁 Matthew, who got in touch after his gorgeous girl died, just one week short of her 15th birthday.😥 He wanted to her honour her memory by purchasing several much-needed items for our residents. So kind of you Matthew and we are so sorry for your loss.🙏

KATIE RELAXING AT TWILIGHTS
🧡🤍🤎🧡🤍🤎🧡🤍🤎🧡🤍🤎🧡🤍🤎

Our nervous newbie, Katie (aged 12) is settling into Twilight life and gaining confidence every day.🥰

As mentioned in our last update, we moved her into a hospitalisation pen in our lounge. This helped her feel secure while observing us and the other cats.

Well, this week, we left the pen door open and she jumped out and has been exploring her new surroundings.😃

Here she is relaxing on our toy box.

We discovered that she loves being groomed... so much so, she gently bats you with her paw when you stop wanting you to continue some more. It's really quite endearing.

She has really long and thick fur which had matted in places and you wouldn't believe the amount of hair we've got off her - the pile is large enough to make another Katie!😁

She still faults anything new (she hissed at the phone taking pics at first) so we will always have to be considerate and a bit wary around her. Not suited to children! But that doesn't matter, she has a forever retirement home here.

It is difficult to believe that this is the same cat who was hissing, hiding and lashing out just two weeks ago...

THANK YOU ALFIE'S MUM
Last Tuesday, we had a visit from Carolyn who runs Low Furrow Cattery in nearby Pebworth. Sadly, one of her client's, Jynni, lost her beloved cat, Alfie recently.😥

It was an unexpected loss - Alfie had been booked in for a long stay.

Alfie was truly adored - you can see that from the assortment of food that his mum kindly donated to us (along with several other items not pictured).

Carolyn was happy to refund Alfie's owner the deposit she had paid but instead, Jynni requested that she use the funds to buy items from our wishlist (pic on right).

What can we say... two very generous ladies!

And thank you Alfie.🥰

SUNDAY LUNCHES SORTED!
This morning Mr T met Marilyn and her three cats: Indigo, Leo and Silver who live in the local Cotswold village of Weston-sub-Edge.

Marilyn had recently introduced her cat family to Katkin - a high quality, fresh food diet for cats. And would you believe it... in typical fussy feline fashion, all three turned their noses up at it!😁 So Marilyn kindly offered it - free of charge - on a local site.

We saw it and jumped at the chance! We have several seniors here with delicate tummies - not least Masha (pictured below) who suffers from inflammatory bowel disease. She can only eat fresh food (normally Marro) or a special kibble.

So thanks to Marilyn's generosity (and her picky pusscats😆) the bottom drawer of our freezer is now full of Katkin pouches.😃

CATNIP FUNDAY SUNDAY AT TWILIGHTS
We were recently sent this wonderful selection box of catnip toys from Sue at WyrleyWhiskers.😃

Most senior cats still love their catnip fix and will revert to their inner kitten during play - our residents are no exception!

Here is our new, nervous girl Katie losing her inhibitions while grappling with her catnip toy, whilst supersenior tripod Tilly has gone all silly!😆

KATIE UPDATE:
Thank you to everyone who welcomed Katie and sent her best wishes.🥰

It's been an 'interesting' couple of weeks with her.🙄 We won't sugar-coat things, Katie has been a very scared girl: lashing out at us every time we feed her or clean her litter tray. (It got so bad at one stage, we even wondered whether we had a feral cat on our hands!)

To help her settle, we made the bold decision to bring her indoors and place her in a hospitalisation pen in our lounge. It's not something we often do, but the confinement can make a nervous cat feel safe. They have somewhere to hide, but can also observe us close-up and take cues from our interactions with the other cats.

And it's beginning to work. Katie has finally realised that we mean her no harm! She is no longer hissing at us and is now coming out of her igloo bed at mealtimes to eat in our presence. Yesterday, she even sat looking at us, her head tilted inquisitively to one side, as if to say: 'you might not be as bad as I first thought!' Of course, the production of cooked chicken every lunchtime has helped. When all else fails... resort to bribery!😆

We have a fair way to go yet, but Katie is making progress.😃

FIRST GLIMPSE OF KATIE
Nervous Katie, aged 12, arrived at Twilights yesterday evening.

She was previously the sole companion of a gentleman in his nineties who was recently placed into care.

Sadly, her dad had no human family to continue looking after his beloved Katie and it was social services who alerted us to her plight.😢

Like all other rescues, we are completely full at the moment, and have had to decline many pleas for help recently, but we felt we just had to find a way to help her. So Katie is currently in the space we had reserved for another senior at the end of August...

The poor girl is utterly bewildered at the moment... but she's a bit of a dumpling and obviously likes her food!😆 She may be upset, but she ate the food we left down overnight and has had some tuna for lunch today.

Just edited to add, this is Katie hiding under the hollow steps which give her access to a high shelf in her accommodation (an 8' x 8' lodge).
