Elmbridge CAN is a community-based charity located in Surrey, UK. Our mission is to welcome and support refugees fleeing terror in their home countries.

The global migration crisis is an historic event that has seen the largest number of refugees since World War II. From Syria to Somalia and Libya to Afghanistan, people are suffering brutality, impoverishment and displacement because of war and political regimes. We believe that we all have the power and responsibility to make a difference to those whose lives have been affected. But we also recog

nise that this can't happen without a collaborative, cross-community effort. We aim to facilitate this within the Borough of Elmbridge - bringing together residents, businesses, community groups, charities and the local authority. We believe that Elmbridge CAN make a difference. OUR AIMS

1. Raising awareness - We help the residents of Elmbridge be aware of and sympathetic to the lives and needs of refugees.

2. Networking and partnerships - We facilitate collaboration, resource sharing and learning across local and national stakeholder groups to ensure the successful resettlement of refugees within Elmbridge.

3. Influencing - We engage in local and national advocacy and campaigning and support Elmbridge residents to influence our Government for the benefit of refugees.

4. Resources - We raise vital financial and material resources for refugee related charitable programmes.

This family is getting ready… are you? 👟🌊

Watch them getting out on the Elmbridge Together Fun Run route and putting in some training ahead of the big day!

If you’re looking for something fun to look forward to as a family this September, join us on Sunday 20 September for the Elmbridge Together Fun Run, hosted by the Mayor of Elmbridge, Judy Sarsby.

There’s a 5k for everyone, plus a separate 2k event for children. Run, jog or walk - whatever suits you! It’s an inclusive event for all ages and abilities, with a beautiful riverside route and a great community atmosphere. 💜

And while you’re having fun, you’ll also be helping to raise money for Elmbridge CAN and the Mayor of Elmbridge Trust Fund, supporting local people.

💕🍾 four years ago this young man was completely new to education in the UK. Now he is off to study politics at London university. We are so proud of him, and of all the other young people in our community getting A level results today. Huge thanks also to our tutor volunteers who have helped some of them on their way.

Yesterday, we took some of our families to Bocketts Farm Park with some kindly donated tickets. It was a day of much needed joy, respite and connection. In the words of one family:

“We really needed that trip. We needed it 100%. My children enjoyed and loved it and that made me so happy. I really enjoyed it, I didn’t want to leave. I’m really happy with it thank you for inviting us. Thank you so much.”

Huge thanks to all involved, including our volunteer drivers who made the travel possible. 🙏😁

We're delighted to thank Community Foundation for Surrey for supporting our communications and events programme this year.

Their funding is helping us bring people together, strengthen our community and ensure that the voices of people with lived experience are at the heart of our work.

We're looking for passionate people to help us continue supporting forcibly displaced people to rebuild their lives in Elmbridge.

We currently have two exciting opportunities:

🤝 Trustee (voluntary)
Help shape the future of Elmbridge CAN. We're particularly keen to hear from people with experience in safeguarding, finance or charity leadership.

💼 Operations Coordinator (paid)
A full-time role (job-share considered) supporting the day-to-day running of our charity.

Whether you'd like to walk, jog or run the beautiful 5k riverside route, it's a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community while raising vital funds for the Mayor of Elmbridge Trust Fund and Elmbridge CAN, supporting local households.

🎉 What a fantastic evening!

Last Friday, we were delighted to join the Mayor of Elmbridge, Judy Sarsby, for a brilliant quiz night in support of her chosen charities, including Elmbridge CAN.

A huge thank you to Judy for hosting such a wonderful event, St George's Hill Lawn Tennis Club for so generously hosting the evening, and to the fantastic quiz master team, led by our wonderful volunteer Johnny, for keeping everyone entertained with a fun and challenging quiz.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along, took part and donated. Together, you helped raise over £2,000 to support the Mayor's chosen charities, with 90% of the funds raised during her mayoral year going to Elmbridge CAN, helping us to continue supporting displaced people rebuilding their lives in our community.

We're so grateful for the generosity, kindness and community spirit shown by everyone involved. 💙
