💛 Learning Disability Week Day 1 | Monday 15th June 2026

👀 This year’s Learning Disability Week theme is "Do You See Me?" - a reminder that everyone deserves to be seen, heard and valued.

🌟 One of the highlights of our first day was our Understand Us - Disability Consultants UK team meeting with a potential new client to discuss an exciting piece of work.

🤝 The project would involve training key teams across Surrey, helping services better understand and support people with learning disabilities.

💬 By sharing lived experience and expertise, Sunnybank and Understand Us are helping to create more inclusive services where people with learning disabilities are listened to, understood and included.

💛 A brilliant way to begin a week focused on visibility, inclusion and making sure people with learning disabilities have a voice.

Happy Volunteers Week 💛

This week we want to say a huge thank you to our volunteers who give their time, care and skills to support Sunnybank.

Your support shows up in so many different ways, and every bit of it makes a real difference.

💛 To the volunteer who creates props for our drama shows - thank you

💛 To the volunteer who visits our members in hospital, offering company and support - thank you

💛 To the volunteer who has given up their weekends to help at the allotment - thank you

💛 To the volunteer who has memorised our members coffee orders, making sure everyone gets exactly what they like - thank you

💛 To the volunteer who has taken broken equipment home to fix, returning it repaired and ready to use - thank you

💛 To the volunteer who designs and makes beautiful jewellery to sell at markets, donating the profits to Sunnybank - thank you

💛 To the volunteer who stays a little later to help tidy up at the end of craft sessions - thank you

💛 And to every other volunteer who supports Sunnybank in ways big and small -thank you. You help create friendship, confidence and belonging every day.

💛 A few of our members and staff recently enjoyed a lovely visit to the Sri Raja Rajeswary Amman Temple for their Community Afternoon.

✨ We had a fantastic day. Thank you to everyone for their generosity and kindness.

🍛 We enjoyed delicious food, amazing dancing and a beautiful tour of the temple.

🙏 A big thank you to the temple and Age Concern Epsom & Ewell for such a lovely day.

Sunnybank Trust is proud to share that we have been awarded a multi-year, unrestricted grant from Lloyds Bank Foundation for England & Wales

📊 In a recent survey, 97% of Sunnybank members said they feel more connected to the local community since joining us.

💚 With the support of Lloyds Bank Foundation, we can reach even more people with learning disabilities, helping to build a more connected, inclusive community.

Sophie Francis-Cansfield from Lloyds Bank Foundation organised a meeting between The Sunnybank Trust and two local MPs:

👨‍💼 Chris Coghlan, MP for Dorking & Horley

“The Foundation is pleased to support Sunnybank’s fantastic community-led work. The team are ambitious, led by lived expertise, and can show the real impact they're making. This meeting provided a great chance to showcase Sunnybank to two local MPs” - Sophie Francis-Cansfield

This was a chance for Sunnybank to talk about:
🌍 our local community
💙 the work we do as a charity
🗣️ our Understand Us work
⚠️ the challenges faced by people with a learning disability

👥 4 Sunnybank members came along and shared what matters to them.
🗣️They spoke about the changes they would like to see in the community, their experiences of Sunnybank’s support, and the work at Understand Us (UK Learning Disability Consultants)

🏥 We also talked about key issues, including hospital discharge procedures for people with learning disabilities, and we were proud to share our Hear My Voice Advocacy work and impact, standing alongside people to make sure they are listened to.

🙏 Thank you to Sophie for bringing everyone together, and thank you to Helen and Chris for taking the time to learn more about Sunnybank and Understand Us.

Our team delivered over 2,600 hours of advocacy, supporting people with learning disabilities.

🏥 70%+ of issues were about health and social care
This includes GP appointments, hospital care, care reviews and support services.

People's choices should be listened to and taken seriously.

Everyone should be able to make decisions about things that affect their life.

Welcome back to Sunny Afternoon Club! 💛👋

We’re so happy to see our members again 😊

Speaking with our members, we know this weekly club has a positive impact on their wellbeing, giving adults with learning disabilities a chance to relax, see friends and be creative 🖌️✏️✂️

🏡 🖼️ Many members arrive excited to make art and crafts they can take home.

🤩 🎨 It’s wonderful to have everyone back, we can’t wait to see all the creativity this year! 💛
