Photography Project Celebrating Carers Week 2026📸

We are proud to share a powerful new photography project led by documentary photographer Sam Ivin, who worked with young carers and their families in Crewe.

Thanks to funding from Cheshire East Council, the project gave young carers the opportunity to tell their own stories through photography. As part of this, Sam also delivered a series of creative workshops, supporting young people to develop their skills, confidence, and self-expression.

The resulting exhibition is now on display in LY2, Lyceum Square, Crewe, as part of Carers Week. It offers a moving insight into the lives of young carers and shines a light on their experiences, resilience, and the vital role they play within their families. The display will be available to view for the next two months – we’d really encourage you to take a moment to visit and see it.

A huge thank you to Sam and to the young carers who so bravely shared their stories.

Another fantastic workshop with the Create charity team!

Over three days, in the May Half Term, young carers from Ellesmere Port and Chester explored ideas, experimented with different materials and brought their own garden lantern sculptures to life — each with its own character.

It was great to see everyone getting stuck in, trying new things and bringing their designs to life. A brilliant group and a really enjoyable project to be part of.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the incredible work our Wellbeing Practitioners do with young carers — and sharing one of the simple wellbeing tools they use that can support anyone who might be feeling low or overwhelmed.

In their one to one and group sessions, our practitioners encourage young people to check in with the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. These five steps are small, everyday actions that can help lift mood, build resilience and support better mental health.

1. CONNECT
Spend time with people who make you feel safe, understood and valued.

2. BE ACTIVE
Moving your body, even gently, can reduce stress and boost your mood.

3. TAKE NOTICE
Slow down and notice what’s around you; it can help calm busy thoughts.

4. KEEP LEARNING
Trying something new builds confidence and gives a sense of achievement.

5. GIVE
Acts of kindness, big or small, strengthen relationships and help us feel good.

Focusing on just one of these steps can help you feel calmer, more grounded or refreshed. Give it a try — one small action can make a real difference.

Cheshire West & Chester are updating their All‑Age Carer Strategy, and they want to hear from families.

If you’re a parent of a young carer, this is a chance to share what support your child needs and what would make a real difference. The survey takes around 10 minutes and could help shape future services for unpaid carers of all ages.

Final reminder! The All Age Carer Survey closes soon.

Your voice can help make real change — please take a few minutes to complete the survey and share with others who care for someone.
