Sherwood Forest Trust We work across the whole wide area that was once Sherwood Forest, to preserve its woodland, heathland, its nature habitats, and its local heritage.

We're a small team with a big vision, and we believe in co-operation and community. By working together smaller organisations and communities have a bigger voice, have more expertise and make better use of resources.

🌳 Could your school grow the next Major Oak?

We're inviting schools across Nottinghamshire to get involved in Sherwood Forest Day 2027, taking place on 20th February, with a brilliant opportunity for pupils to become Sherwood Oak Tree Guardians.

We're offering schools a completely free oak sapling, grown from Sherwood and in Sherwood, and an interactive workshop delivered by our team at Sherwood Forest Trust.

Here's what's included:
🌱 Your very own Sherwood oak sapling to plant at your school
🌱 A fun, interactive and curriculum-linked workshop
🌱 Guidance on how to care for your tree and help it grow

Children will discover why trees are so important, learn more about Sherwood's natural heritage and take responsibility for looking after their very own oak.

Over time, schools can share photos and updates as their trees grow, becoming part of a wider network of young Tree Guardians across Sherwood Forest.

Who knows, one of those little saplings could even become the next Major Oak!

🍃 Schools can also get involved in the RSPB's Leaves of Sherwood campaign, celebrating what Sherwood Forest means to their community.

We'd love to get more local schools involved and help children build a connection with this very special landscape.

Get in touch to book your free workshop!

October is Free Wills Month, an opportunity to think about the future and make a will, with participating solicitors offering free will-writing services.

For some people, making a will is also a chance to leave something meaningful behind and support a cause close to their heart.

Earlier this year, Roy Smith verygenerously donated £10,000 from his late brother Barry's estate to support the work of Sherwood Forest Trust. Barry had a love of nature, and Roy wanted to honour his memory in a way that would make a lasting difference.

The gift has been allocated to our Community Tree Nursery, where we collect seeds from ancient and veteran native trees across Sherwood, growing them into young saplings to be planted across the region.

These locally grown trees are specially adapted to Sherwood's soils and habitats, giving future generations of trees the best possible chance to thrive. Roy's gift will help us expand this work, growing even more trees and restoring much more of the historic Sherwood landscape.

It's a wonderful way for Barry's love of nature to live on, and a reminder that a gift in someone's will, whatever its size, can help shape the future of places and causes that matter to us.

If you're thinking about making or updating your will this October, you can find out more about leaving a gift to Sherwood Forest Trust and how it could help protect and restore this special landscape.

Come along for a tree walk with our Tree Nursery Officer, Izzy, this Wednesday!

You will learn how to identify the magnificent trees of Sherwood Forest, how we collect seed and take them back to our tree nursery where our volunteers sow and grow them.

If there is any seed to collect, we'll do that too! Last time we managed to collect a lot of crab apple 🍏

It's totally free to attend and you'll be helping us in the first step of growing on the future of Sherwood Forest 💚

Our friends over at Active Notts and Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Talking Therapies have one more walk on their series of mental health walks next month. 🚶‍♀️🚶

We all know how beneficial walking and wheeling can be for our mental health and wellbeing whether it's walking round the block, to the shops, round a park, to school or work, up the forest, and whether it's on our own or with others.

This is a lovely opportunity to get out, chat with others, and enjoy nature around us. Kings Mill Res is a great place for wildlife and a prime spot for birdwatching, they have recorded over 100 different bird species there! 🐦
