Dr Kelvin Wright for Worksop South, with my friend and former RGN colleague Gemma LP - Gemma Palmer ADI had the privilege of delivering our first FREE community training session this week in CPR, choking response, defibrillation, and Stop The Bleed awareness at Norton and Cuckney Village Hall 🚑🩸⚡

We were delighted to welcome 15 local friends and families from the parish, aged 10 years and upwards, who all got involved with hands-on learning, demonstrations, videos, and asked some incredibly thoughtful and intelligent questions throughout the evening 👏❤️

It was a fantastic evening with so much learned by attendees of all ages 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🙌

We covered the importance of:
✔️ Calling 999 immediately
✔️ Starting CPR without delay
✔️ Using an AED confidently
✔️ Controlling catastrophic bleeding quickly
✔️ Acting fast and without fear

One of the biggest messages from the session was simple:

⭐️Doing something is always better than doing nothing.

Many people are frightened to step in during an emergency, but early action can be the difference between life and death. You do not need to be a healthcare professional to save a life, you just need the confidence to act.

We also discussed:

🫀 Hands-only CPR
🩹 Tourniquet use & wound packing
⚡ AED locations and how easy they are to use
👶 Child vs adult CPR differences
🤝 The Good Samaritan principle and protecting dignity during emergencies

We received lots of praise and appreciation at the end from those attending, which meant a great deal to us both.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, listened, took part, and got involved 💪😊 Community education truly saves lives.

We’re hoping to run another course at the hall soon 🏡✨ and to deliver further educational training sessions in parishes and towns near you. Anyone interested in hosting or attending a future session, please drop either one of us a message 📩😊
