Our resident robins have hatched!๐Ÿฃ

We've been watching mum Robin flying in and out of the polytunnel and taking care of her babies, they'll probably be flying off on their own in a couple of weeks ๐Ÿฆ

They won't have their characteristic red breast until they're about 2/3 months old, until then, they'll be brown and mottled.

In the meantime, we'll be giving them space and keeping an eye on them until they've flown the nest.๐Ÿชบ

We recently joined a black poplar project with and Notts BAG

Black poplar is a rare and declining species, due to the loss of floodplain habitats where it naturally regenerates. This project aims to save the black poplar species.

We've been grafting down at the tree nursery...

Working with the RSPB team and their specialist arborists at Sherwood Forest NNR, we gathered cuttings (scions) from a very old, wild apple tree, for an exciting grafting project ๐ŸŽ

Time for a winter spruce at the Community Tree Nursery (no pun intended ๐ŸŒฒ)

We had our lovely group of volunteers help out this week. They cleaned the polytunnel and the water storage containers, and built some new raised beds, ready for planting in the coming months!

Couldn't do it without our vols! Thank you for all who helped out ๐Ÿ’š

As part of our Care for Your Patch of Sherwood campaign, we recently helped local schools, landowners, and groups plant native trees. We spoke about how to look after their trees and woodlands. Right tree, right place, proper care! ๐ŸŒณ

Weโ€™re excited to share a lovely update from Little Allotment Wood in East Bridgford, where one of our community-grown oak saplings now has pride of place. Planted last spring, this young Sherwood oak is thriving, thanks to the care of the local parish council and the East Bridgford Scouts, who helped with its planting. ๐ŸŒฑ

These trees are now into their 3rd year of growth, and are looking healthy, despite the very dry summer we've had this year! โ˜€๏ธ

East Bridgford Councillor, Penny Storr, leads this project with funding from Trees For Climate. Local cubs have been helping with weeding and mulching, and Penny is planning a final mulching day with local Scouts and Beavers in early 2026 - after this, the trees should be strong enough to sustain themselves.

The tree was grown at the Sherwood Seedbank, a project supported by Newark and Sherwood District Council . This initiative aims to restore native woodlands by growing and planting local tree species. The survival of this oak through the summer is a testament to the importance of community involvement and care in preserving our natural heritage. ๐Ÿ’š
