We were delighted to be invited to attend the YPI National Event 2026 at Perth Concert Hall. It was an incredibly entertaining event with performances and presentations by young people from various schools who had taken part in YPI over the past year as well as musical entertainment from Nathan Evans. The theme of the day was and this was truly reflected throughout as young people took to the stage to showcase the outstanding work they have done to raise awareness of the social issues faced by many across Scotland through their engagement with charities. The passion and empathy shown by each and every young person was truly inspiring.

A special mention to the groups from Trinity Academy Edinburgh and Hutcheson's Grammar whose success in the YPI competition to raise funds for CrossReach resulted in us being invited to attend the event.

If you know a young person in school taking part in YPI who would like to learn about CrossReach, get in touch with our fundraising team by emailing [email protected] and they could be at next year's event!

Thank you to Oscar who braved the dreich weather to take on a cold plunge at Portobello beach to raise funds for CrossReach. As a part of his Duke of Edinburgh, Oscar joined the fundraising team and learned about the ins and outs of events fundraising; how to plan, promote and execute events as well as the importance of supporting fundraisers through stewardship. Oscar utilised these skills to organise his own fundraising challenge and raised ÂŁ170 before taking on the cold plunge. It was a pleasure to have Oscar join the team and we wish him the best of luck with his Duke of Edinburgh!

For Julie, a combination of circumstances led to her to a life of homelessness and mental illness which spiralled into situation that looked like it had no escape:

With support from our Cunningham House service, Julie is now doing much better. She shared an update with us in this video.

We are delighted to share that one of our dedicated staff members, Jen MacDonald, has been nominated for the Stars of Social Care Awards.

Jen, who works as service manager at Oversteps, a comfortable and happy home providing residential care to 24 older people in Dornoch, has been nominated in the Inspirational Care Home Manager category (North & Midlands).

The annual awards, held at the Leonardo Royal in London, celebrate social care heroes from across the UK.

Reflecting on the nomination Jen said: “I’m really honoured to be nominated for the award, I couldn’t believe it at first.
“We are a really good team here and it just feels good to see Oversteps recognised.”

While unable to travel down for the ceremony on June 13th, Jen remains hopeful that she could pick up the accolade.

She said: “It would be nice to win but I am just grateful to have been nominated.”

Jen said that she hadn’t told any of the residents at Oversteps about her nomination yet but that she was sure they’d also be happy for her.

The awards will be presented by This Morning’s Josie Gibson with all nominees also entered into a draw to win a holiday for two.

We wish Jen the best of luck!

Volunteers week | June 1 - 7 2026

Our Megan tells us about her experience volunteering for us. We are proud of her development as she will soon complete her Masters while dedicating her time to supporting those she listens to ❤️

"My experience volunteering with CrossReach has been nothing short of rewarding. I started as a nervous trainee CBT therapist, unsure of what to expect, but that quickly changed when I realised how wonderful and welcoming both the staff and residents are.

CrossReach is a community of people brought together from all walks of life, and a year and a half on, I still feel genuinely privileged for the opportunity to play even a small part in supporting such a special place."
