VIP in the Scran Cafe today!

We got a surprise visit from Nadia our old cafe manager. Erin was sooo shocked and thrilled to see her work mum, highlight of her year.

It was amazing to catch up with her and have her see all the amazing work that's been happening at Comely Bank with Erin now in charge.

The team just keeps growing and growing! 💛

So it was brilliant to bring everyone together in one place for a day of connecting, celebrating, having fun and reminding ourselves that, despite our different roles and locations, we’re all part of one big team working towards the same mission.

There was plenty to celebrate too, from £200k of youth-generated income this year, to young people moving into employment, apprenticeships and further education, and our most successful start to an Academy year yet. 🙌

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Scran team day without letting our competitive sides shine! Ai***ft, archery and axe throwing brought out some serious competitive spirit, all in the name of friendly fun, of course! 😄🎯

Here’s to our growing team, shared purpose and plenty more team days to come! 💛

A wee September round up!

Starting off with Millie’s Honey Sesame Chicken, which tasted incredible and was nice and crispy 🤩

It was an honour to be part of Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity ‘Bake It Happen’ with our delicious cake with chocolate ganache. Even Peter Sawkins said it tasted great!!

The ‘Bake it Happen’ cake in question 🍰

Sky completing Scransitions in her new chef jacket our Head of Youth Enterprise got her, now she’s ready to become a real chef.

The Academy has been smashing it out of the park in the kitchen, levelling up on their skills

Over very own team members Paulina and Jules did incredible taking on the Edinburgh The Kiltwalk

And so did Emma, who has recently stepped down from being on our board but is still very much involved at Scran as seen by her 5th Kiltwalk

Recently, we’ve started receiving donations from Company Bakery . A huge thank you to the whole team! Our young people have been loving them, and they’ve helped make Academy breakfasts, such as French toast, delicious. We’ve also been able to share some of the donations with our partner charities, such as Passion4Fusion

Thank you again for your generous support! ❤️

Adriano took on the Men’s 10k and did amazing raising an incredible £520!

Thank you Adriano!

The Scran Van has been out at Barratt Homes sites serving their staff some banging scran!

We’re proud to be supporting the Knife Angels Closing Ceremony today by providing the catering and bringing along a brilliant group of young people from The Royal High School💛

Over the past few weeks, the group have been exploring the question:

“What would a safe community look like for young people?”

With support from CashBack for Communities, they’ve had the chance to come up with their own ideas, create a showcase and deliver it at today’s event.

It’s been amazing to see their creativity, confidence and teamwork grow throughout the programme, while working towards their Dynamic Youth Award 🙌

We’re so proud of what they’ve created and can’t wait to see their showcase come to life today!

"Before I started getting support at Scran Academy – I was struggling with next steps. I wasn’t sure what to do with myself, but I knew I wanted to work in hospitality as I have always had a goal of doing this! Scran has taught me that I can absolutely achieve these goals, and I feel more confident and capable!" - Sky, Scranistioner.

Sky has always been more than capable of reaching her goals, and we’ve never doubted that for a second. 💛

But seeing her now, speaking so confidently about her future after completing her placement, is something really special.

She’s well on her way to landing her dream job, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far she’s come! ✨

📣 BREAKING NEWS!

We’re delighted to share that we’re finalists for the Living Wage Scotland Awards 2026 – Local Champion (Public & Third Sector)! 🎉

This recognition means a lot to us because we’re committed to making sure young people and our staff have access to fair, meaningful employment.

Through our Scransitions employability programme, we support young people to move into living-wage employment, building skills, confidence and experience along the way.

But we also believe in practising what we preach.

We’re proud to employ 9 young people on the Living Wage, giving them real opportunities to earn a fair wage, develop their skills and thrive at work.

We believe that if we want to see better opportunities for young people, we need to create those opportunities ourselves too.

We’re incredibly proud to have this work recognised through the Living Wage Scotland Awards.

Fingers crossed! 🤞

WE CAN’T QUITE BELIEVE IT! 🎉

We are finalists for the .scotland Excellence Awards 2026 in the Centre of the Year category!

Two years ago, becoming a Qualification Scotland-approved centre was a huge milestone for Scran. Today, to be recognised as a finalist for Centre of the Year feels genuinely incredible.

Scran was founded because we knew too many young people were struggling with mainstream education. We wanted to create something different, an education that works around young people’s needs, supports their learning styles and unlocks their potential.

We are so proud of the young people who inspire us every day and remind us exactly why we do what we do.

Our vision is a Scotland where every young person has access to an education that meets their needs, unlocks their aspirations and enables them to build a future with dignity.

This recognition tells us we are on the right path to achieving that!

And we couldn’t be prouder. ❤️
