My biggest inspiration is my dad, David Bathgate.
Over the last 13 years, he's been pouring over old diaries, slides, poems and maps and hand writing "Brass Monkey"
Scottish and British rock and ice throughout the 60s and 70s was an era that saw huge changes in the sport, pushed boundaries, and set the standard for much of the sport today.
He not only tells the tale of first ascents and adventure but ties it in with geology, geography, and history, making it an interesting read for anyone.

Fuelled by over 5 thousand drams of Scotch Whiskey and supported throughout by Scippio (cat), Fluke & Scurry (dogs), the book was written at the table in a kitchen that he built with his own hands. Being a carpenter and son of a carpenter meant none of the expeditions he went on were awarded easily. He proved his worth through skill and determination, a love of the sport, and being a great person.
