Friends of Hailes Quarry Park

Friends of Hailes Quarry Park We are a friendly group of local residents who help look after the park. We aim to develop it for the community and for nature.

Please come and use the community herb garden we built. Or help with tree planting, weeding, litter picking, and events. Our vision is for a park where people from our different local communities – Longstone, Kingsknowe, Hailesland, Dumbryden, Murrayburn, Sighthill, and Parkhead (as well as Broomhouse and wider Wester Hailes) - come together to enjoy nature in the city. We want it to be safe and w

elcoming and a place where we can deepen our connection to the natural world. We want to see a wider range of residents using the park with facilities that are well-kept and encourage people to spend more time in the park doing what they enjoy. We are proud of our lovely slice of nature and want to help enhance its natural richness and support biodiversity. We want it to offer events and activities that will enhance the lives of the people who live here.

At yesterday’s gardening volunteering session we carried out some weeding in the new flower bed, put down some compost and sowed some seeds there; we also transplanted the squash seedlings to their final bed: we grow these for their leaves which are a herb used to make super-healthy tea 🥰 Why not come along to a gardening session and lend a hand? 6.30-7.30pm on the first and third Wednesday of every month from April - October. We’d like to give a big thanks as well to Asda for supplying us with some new tools and gloves 👌👍
Next session will be Wednesday 17th June.
We’re doing some more work on the flowerbed this weekend as well.

May - swans on the canal, ladybirds in the herb garden, buttercups and northern marsh orchids in the meadows, and days and days of hot sun. Been busy painting our raised beds and benches, doing small litter picks. We’re always looking for more volunteers to help us :)
