Celebrating our Volunteers: Eileen Lieber

For more than 10 years, Eileen Lieber from East Kilbride Sea Cadets has championed vocational learning opportunities for young people, helping cadets gain valuable qualifications alongside their cadet experience.

From delivering Young Leaders Awards to supporting learners through BTEC Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, Eileen's commitment has ensured countless cadets have had the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications and develop skills for their future.

Thanks to Eileen's dedication, many cadets achieve a significant proportion of their qualification through recognition of the skills and experience they have already gained, with outstanding completion rates year after year.

Reflecting on her recognition, Eileen said: "Thank you very much. It is nice to be appreciated and recognised."

Cadet Vocational College Training and Learning Manager, Fiona, added: "A well-deserved award for a very supportive and proactive VQ Officer. It is always a pleasure to visit the unit and support your cadets. Thank you for your continued hard work and support."

We're proud to work alongside volunteers like Eileen who help young people turn their achievements into qualifications that support future education, employment and personal development.

National Cadet Week – Helping Sea Cadets provide skills for life

This National Cadet Week, we thank all the corporate partners and employers who are helping Sea Cadets to give young people skills for life.

Whether supplying food and water for cadet events and activities or providing support for our offshore fleet and boat stations, our charity could not provide the incredible experiences we offer without your contributions.

Employers also have a crucial role to play, by signing the Armed Forces Covenant (with its commitment to supporting cadet groups) and giving employees additional leave to carry out community youth work as Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

Marine Society & Sea Cadets are calling for five days of statutory volunteering leave for each employee – so that even more people can volunteer to support cadets across the UK. We therefore salute those who are already going above and beyond, such as Cummins – who give Cadet Force Adult Volunteers 10 days of additional leave.

Read here about how Cummins supported one Teesside District volunteer and provided the facilities that allowed to become our newest affiliated unit in July:

thank you to all of our parents and supporters who came along to our AGM last night and to Trustees who are doing a power of work behind the scenes. It was the also the ideal opportunity to give out some very well earned boating qualifications.

We had our new 9 year old juniors achieve start paddle/ paddle discover through to cadets achieving paddle discover and explore- to offshore sailors gaining a plethora of RYA Qualifications . We even had some windsurfers! - showing what can be achieved - amazing effort. !

It is also an opportunity to thank the team at the James Hamilton Heritage Park for all their support this summer- it’s our last session on Wednesday - it will be a blast!
