Confirmed funeral arrangement for Douglas Johnston.

Douglas’ funeral will take place on Thursday 17th September at Calderglen Parish Church at 2pm. Thereafter to Philipshill Cemetery at 3pm.
His family have asked that anyone involved in scouting who is attending wear uniform if possible as scouting was such a big part of Douglas’ life.

A sad announcement from our Scout family 💚

It is with great sadness that we announce that Douglas Johnston passed away on Sunday evening.

Douglas was part of our Monday Beaver team and a Trustee of our scout group. He has held a variety of roles across the district including supporting adult training.

Douglas gave over 60 years of his time, energy and commitment to Scouting and to the young people in our community. His contribution will be remembered with great appreciation, and he will be greatly missed by Scouts, volunteers and families alike.

Our thoughts are with Douglas’ family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Big thank you to Mark at Alba Welding for helping us out with a repair to the cutting deck of our lawn mower. Mark was a scout and Explorer scout and kindly offered to weld a damaged area free of charge for us.
We can get back on top of the grass at the scout hall thank you 🙏.

The hall is ready and the team have been working hard getting everything looking fab for tomorrow! 🥳

3rd EK, Past & Present – We Need Your Help!

We've been taking our own trip down memory lane, looking back at all the incredible summer camps 3rd East Kilbride Scout Group has enjoyed over the past 70 years.

The problem? Our memories have a few gaps! We're missing information about camps from 1956 to 1990, and we're hoping you can help.

🏕️ Did you attend a summer camp during those years? We'd love to hear your stories, see your photos, or even just know where and when you went. Every memory helps us piece together our group's history.

☕ Don't forget our Memory Café on Sunday 23rd August! It's the perfect opportunity to come along, share your memories over a tea or coffee, and help us fill in those missing years. Keep an eye out for our Facebook event—we'd love to know how many people to expect.

Big Birthday Bash 🎉

And just like that, our celebratory camp has come to an end, and what an absolute joy it has been! 🥳

With over 120 young people getting the chance to experience a camp filled with adventure, friendships, new opportunities, and skills for life, it truly reminds us volunteers of what scouting is all about. The young people of our group are an absolute credit to us, and for that, we thank them hugely for giving everything they've got! 🙌 We are SO proud! 🏅

Events like this don’t just happen overnight. It takes months of planning 📅, preparing, making lists, buying resources, sorting out logistics... the list goes on! From our catering team 🍽️ who have fed us all weekend, to our section leaders, who have worked tirelessly to guide, mentor, and inspire our young people, making sure everything runs smoothly and everyone has the best time possible. And of course, our parent helpers 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 who made everything that little bit easier. This entire weekend has been made possible by being surrounded by the most fantastic team of volunteers who put our young people at the heart of everything we do. 💖

Here's to 70 years of 3rd East Kilbride 🎉, and to the many more years to come!

Big Birthday Bash 🎉

Day One – Completed it! ✅

With 125 young people on site, our day has been jam-packed with a wide range of activities! There was something for everyone, and to top it off, we had the most amazing weather ☀️!

From archery 🏹 to scavenger hunts 🕵️, water sports 🌊 to escape rooms 🔐, our young people have thrown themselves into absolutely everything on offer today! 💪

The night ended with some epic Big Bash Party Games 🎉, and of course, the classic, fun-filled 3rd East Kilbride Campfire 🔥.

Now, it's bedtime for all, and everyone is ready to do it all over again tomorrow! 😴
